May 31

The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) commemorated its 4th founding anniversary on May 31, 2025, alongside the graduation ceremony of the second military training intake of Battalion 29 (B-29), according to an official statement from KNDF B-29.

The ceremony featured military drills by the graduating troops, a flag-raising segment, the recital of the oath of allegiance, and a tribute to fallen revolutionary heroes. Commanders, including the battalion commander, deputy commander, and company leaders, delivered remarks expressing pride in KNDF’s four-year journey. They welcomed and encouraged the new graduates, urging them to uphold discipline and conduct themselves as exemplary soldiers.

The event concluded with tactical demonstrations and a formal exit by the troops. Battalion 29 reaffirmed its commitment to continue fighting against all forms of dictatorship, in accordance with the five-point oath of allegiance, until complete victory is achieved.

2. People Cannot Live Peacefully as Long as the Military Dictatorship Persists, Says KNDF Deputy Commander-in-Chief Mawii

May 31

At the KNDF’s 4th anniversary event, Deputy Commander-in-Chief Mawii stated on May 31 that the people of Myanmar would never be able to live in peace as long as the military dictatorship remains in power, and that the revolutionary struggle must therefore continue with unyielding determination.

Mawii stated,

“As long as the military dictators remain in power, our people—and we ourselves—will never be able to live peacefully or with dignity. This is a reality that we must keep in our hearts and minds at all times. That’s why I urge everyone to continue fighting with full force and commitment until we achieve success. I’m here to support and encourage you.”

He expressed deep respect and recognition for all comrades—brothers and sisters—who have endured the pain, hardship, and sacrifices together over the past four years. He also thanked the general public for their unwavering support of the KNDF despite airstrikes, bombings, and heavy artillery attacks, and emphasized that nothing would have been possible without the people’s support.

Looking ahead, Mawii added:

“In the near future, I hope we will no longer be holding guns, but instead holding flowers, as we reunite in a new country and a new society we have built together.”

3. Five Military Outposts Abandoned by Junta Within Three Days After Key Strategic Bases Captured

May 31

Within just three days of the capture of key strategic junta military bases by KNLA and allied forces in KNU/KNLA Brigade 6 territory, five junta outposts were reportedly abandoned.

The abandoned outposts—Thay Kaphale, Maw Kee, Shwe Ay Myine, Thoke Kyaw (Bawingnaung), and Thawithi—were left behind by junta troops due to their increasing isolation from key supply routes and rising fear of further attacks, according to local sources.

After the capture of the Kanelay strategic base on the evening of May 28, about 30 junta troops from Maw Kee outpost retreated toward the Ugarit strategic base, and another group of 27 troops from Thoke Kyaw reportedly withdrew to the Waw Lay base.

Although the junta troops managed to transport most of their weapons and ammunition during the retreat, their inability to maintain control of the territory marks a significant success for the resistance forces.

4. Junta’s Infantry Division 33 Headquarters in Sagaing Attacked with 107mm Rockets

May 31

The headquarters of Myanmar junta’s Infantry Division 33 (ID-33) in Sagaing Region’s Sagaing Township was targeted with three 107mm rocket attacks, according to a statement from Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM).

The attack occurred at around 2:20 p.m. on May 31, led by BWM in collaboration with the groups Shadow (Sagaing), No More Dictatorship (NMD), and Infinity (Sagaing Urban Guerrillas). The rockets reportedly struck within the ID-33 compound, causing damage.

Division 33 is notorious for its brutal crackdowns on civilians throughout the Spring Revolution period. It is also currently involved in arresting civilians and conducting forced labor under the command of its deputy commander in Sagaing Township.

The attack was reportedly timed in response to intelligence indicating that a senior junta military leader was scheduled to visit the ID-33 base. The operation, dubbed “BWM Mission 40,” aimed to send a clear message:

“There is no safe haven for junta leaders—nowhere is secure.”

Initial reports indicate the rockets struck their targets and caused damage, though details of the extent of casualties or whether the targeted leader was present are still under investigation.

5. Junta Regional Commander and Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Captured by AA in Kyaukphyu Battle

May 31

Fierce clashes are ongoing in Kyaukphyu Township, Rakhine State, where the Arakan Army (AA) reportedly captured a junta regional commander (Grade-1, G1) and a deputy lieutenant colonel, along with numerous soldiers and weapons.

According to military sources, the battle took place near Min Taik Taung Village in Kyaukphyu Township around 3:00 PM on May 30. During the clash, AA forces captured Deputy Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Lin Kyine and at least 30 junta troops, including arms and ammunition.

Earlier, on March 27, during an offensive to seize the junta’s Battalion 32 base at Sawnanphay Hill in Kyaukphyu, Colonel Kyaw Myo Aung—Chief of Operations Strategy of Infantry Division 11—was killed by sniper fire, resulting in heavy casualties for the junta.

Kyaukphyu hosts several major Chinese-backed investments, including a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a deep-sea port, and an oil and gas pipeline. The current battles are reportedly occurring more than 6,000 meters away from those sites. The AA has pledged that these investment projects will not be harmed.

Despite ongoing resistance activity, several junta bases and outposts remain in Kyaukphyu Township, including the Danyawaddy Naval HQ, Oakkyin Naval Base, LIB-34, IB-542, IB-543, and Police Battalion 32, along with other military checkpoints and stations.

The Arakan Army has publicly urged junta troops to surrender early by raising the white flag, assuring them that early surrender means a higher chance of survival and reunion with their families.

AA also stated that surrendered soldiers and defectors are being treated well according to international POW standards, are receiving monetary rewards, and are being safely returned to their families.

During the ongoing town-capturing campaign in Rakhine, the AA has reportedly detained over 1,000 junta troops, including at least four senior officers of colonel rank.

6. Member of Yadanabon Revolution Forces Central Committee Killed in Battle

May 31

On May 28, during a joint operation with allied forces to attack and neutralize junta troops, a central committee member of the Yadanabon Revolution Forces (YRF), Comrade Khun Sai (aka Bo Down), was killed in action.

He died while fighting for the liberation of oppressed civilians. His funeral ceremony was held on May 31, attended by fellow revolutionaries, monks, and civilians, who paid their respects and honored his sacrifice.

The ceremony included a moment of reverence, public readings of condolence messages from allied resistance forces, and flower offerings from grieving comrades and supporters.

Comrade Khun Sai was only 23 years old at the time of his death. Despite his young age, he bore the heavy burden of his generation and played a leading role in both peaceful protests and armed resistance. He served as a central committee member and a commander in the YRF, actively participating in the struggle to uproot the military dictatorship.
