1. Junta’s Bawringnaung Military Base at Highest Peak Along Thai-Myanmar Border Recaptured by Resistance Forces

On the morning of May 30, joint resistance forces successfully recaptured the Bawringnaung military base, located at the highest peak on the Thai-Myanmar border, according to local military sources.

The Bawringnaung base, a border outpost of the military junta in Myawaddy Township under the territory of KNU Brigade 6, was confirmed to have been taken by the joint revolutionary forces, according to a KNU source.

This military base was a strategically significant outpost of the junta in the border area, and reports say that junta soldiers fled during the attack.

The Cobra Column 2 VENOM, part of the joint resistance operation, reported that rebel forces have been relentlessly attacking and capturing junta military outposts along the Thai-Myanmar border in Kawkareik Township, part of KNU-controlled Dooplaya District.

This latest capture follows a series of victories that began at Blakdoe Camp, with joint forces from KNLA and PDF Battalion 32 advancing to seize Bawringnaung Hill Base early this morning. Just a day prior, they had also captured the Shwe Aye Myay checkpoint base near Ukrithta.

According to reports, the resistance forces have now captured:

  • Blakdoe Base
  • Kanelay Base
  • Shwe Aye Myay Checkpoint Base
  • Bawringnaung Hill Base

During the attack on Bawringnaung, the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion 275 in Myawaddy fired artillery support toward the location of the resistance forces late at night. The sound of these artillery blasts was reportedly heard as far as Mae Sot, Thailand, according to a CDM healthcare worker assisting displaced civilians.

As fighting intensifies along the border, over 500 local civilians have reportedly fled into Thailand, according to some Thai media outlets.

2. Man Killed by Landmine Left Behind by Military in Mogaung

A man from Le U Village in Mogaung Township, located in Brigade 2 of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) area, was killed after stepping on a landmine abandoned by junta forces, according to the PSLF/TNLA Information Department.

The victim, identified as Mine Aung Aung, aged 25, reportedly stepped on the mine around 10 PM on May 24, according to the statement.

The landmine was located near the former base of Battalion 148 under the junta’s Mogaung tactical command, specifically in front of the Five-Mile Checkpoint, where the explosion occurred and led to his death.

According to a TNLA statement, local police inspected the scene and found that the man’s right leg had been blown off and his left thigh had sustained severe injuries.

The TNLA also reported a similar incident on May 15, when a 40-year-old man from Ton Khan Village in Muse Township died after stepping on an abandoned landmine while tending to his cattle.

3. Civilians Killed by Junta Troops in Lone Khin Village, Hpakant, Kachin State

Several civilians were killed when junta troops opened fire during a military operation in Lone Khin Village, Hpakant Township, in Kachin State, according to local sources.

In the last week of May, junta forces launched an offensive into the area, resulting in the deaths of five civilians, confirmed by local sources.

“During the Lone Khin battle, the junta army fired and killed five civilians. Their bodies have been placed inside the Lone Khin cemetery. Families of missing persons may come to identify them,” said one local resident.

One additional body is reportedly still uncollected and remains on the upper floor of the Shwe Mhaw Guesthouse.

Four of the deceased have already been retrieved by the Mawsisa-based humanitarian rescue group, according to reports.

4. Over 10,000 Civilians Displaced by Junta Troops and Militia Abuses in Kanbalu Town and Surrounding Villages

In Kanbalu Town and several surrounding villages in Sagaing Region, over 10,000 civilians have been displaced due to military operations and abuses by junta forces and Pyu Saw Htee militias, according to the Kanbalu District Activist Group from Kyunhla-Kanbalu.

Since early May, junta soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members have been illegally abducting and extorting money from civilians. For example, around 40 residents from Mhawtaw and Kangyigon villages were arrested, and around 30 residents from Wards 1 and 2 in Kanbalu Town were also detained on May 13.

On May 15 and 19, more civilians were abducted based on name lists, bringing the total number of those forcibly taken to over 100 people, the group reports.

The abductions in the town were reportedly led by Aung Thu Htun, a Pyu Saw Htee member and Ward 2 administrator, along with Moe Kyaw and Htun Myint Thein, who transported the detainees to the Military Intelligence Office, OSS Office, and Battalion 6006.

Military incursions into villages have allegedly been led by the sons of former Rose Party chairman and Pyu Saw Htee leader Thaung Wai, identified as Khin Maung Win and Khin Maung Oo.

In addition to arbitrary arrests, the junta and Pyu Saw Htee are extorting money from civilians who do not want to be conscripted into the military. A military unit stationed in Thintaung Village, Kotoungbo Sub-Township, is reportedly preparing to patrol the village and its surroundings.

Due to these operations and abuses, nearly 10,000 local residents from Kanbalu Township have been living as internally displaced persons for about two weeks, enduring rain and poor conditions.

5. Bomb Attack on Shops Owned by Air Force Families in Hmawbi

Shops owned by relatives of Myanmar Air Force personnel in Hmawbi Township, Yangon Region, were attacked with three hand grenades, according to the Yangon Army (YA) group.

The attack targeted three adjacent shop units owned by the relatives of Aung Thu, the village administrator of Tatkon Gyi Village, on the night of May 29 at around 7:55 PM.

The extent of damage and casualties could not be confirmed at the time of reporting.

According to the Yangon Army, Aung Thu’s family members are retired air force personnel, and his youngest brother is still active in the military, piloting a Y-8 transport aircraft and involved in military operations.

The attack was jointly carried out by the Yangon Army (YA) and the Western District People’s Defense Force (PDF). They stated that they will continue targeting relatives of military personnel, particularly those connected to the brutal Myanmar Air Force.
