1. Defence Minister and Deputy Minister visit Acting President Duwa Lashi La and Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann to provide in-person military situation report

According to a statement from the Ministry of Defence, Defence Minister U Yee Mon and Deputy Minister Naing Kaung Ywut, also known as Nai Kao Rot, conducted personal visits to Acting President Duwa Lashi La and Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann, respectively, to deliver reports on the updated military situation. Throughout these meetings, the ministers outlined and deliberated on the strategic initiatives of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) aimed at eradicating the terrorist military responsible for daily casualties among civilians.

Currently, the People’s Defence Forces are working in collaboration with Ethnic Resistance Organisations (EROs) and are engaged in coordinated operations.

2. Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun echoes sentiments of Myanmar people during UNSC meeting by questioning, “Where are you, the United Nations, to save lives in Myanmar?”

During an open debate of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Promoting Conflict Prevention – Empowering All Actors Including Women and Youth held on March 13, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the UN, expressed frustration at the lack of concrete action taken by the Security Council to alleviate the suffering of the Myanmar people. He emphasised that repeated appeals for assistance from Myanmar and himself have gone unanswered, leading to growing exhaustion among the people of Myanmar. Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun posed a poignant question, echoing the sentiments of the people of Myanmar: “Where are you, the United Nations, to save lives in Myanmar?”

Highlighting the ongoing plight in Myanmar, Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun urged the Security Council to adopt an enforcement resolution as a follow-up to Resolution 2669, which was passed in December 2022. He implored the Security Council to intervene by preventing the flow of arms and jet fuel to the military junta, ensuring accountability for serious international crimes, addressing the blockade hindering humanitarian access, and fostering an environment conducive to the establishment of the rule of law and democracy in Myanmar.

3. Mandalay protest leader Dr. Tayzar San stresses unity among people of Mandalay in pursuit of overthrowing military dictatorship and establishing Federal Democratic Union

In a social media update posted on March 14, Dr. Tayzar San, a prominent figure who led the country’s first anti-coup protest in Mandalay, emphasised the solidarity prevailing among Mandalay residents. He highlighted the ongoing efforts of the Anti-junta Forces Coordination Committee–Mandalay (AFCC-Mdy), which has been actively organising mass strikes, public gatherings, revolutionary educational sessions, and concerts across various villages within the Mandalay region. These initiatives are carried out in close collaboration with local people’s defence forces, both the Pa-Ka-Fa and PDF, and enjoy widespread support from the local community, he said.

Dr. Tayzar San underscored the unity and determination of Mandalay’s populace, who are steadfastly marching forward in their collective pursuit of overthrowing the military dictatorship, identified as the common enemy, and establishing a federal democratic union which is the shared goal of the entire people of Myanmar at the earliest possible opportunity. Additionally, he noted the escalating momentum of ground activities led by the public strike forces in the Mandalay Region.

4. Cobra Column initiates ‘Emergency Bullet’ fundraising campaign, aiming to disband junta battalions one by one

The Cobra Column Fundraising Team has launched a new fundraising effort titled “Emergency Bullet” with the goal of securing essential funds to procure emergency ammunition needed for Cobra Column, specifically Cobra Column 1 and Cobra Column 2 (Venom Column), as well as its affiliated Black Panther Column. These resources are essential for sustaining their ongoing operations against military junta strongholds.

Under the theme of “Cobra Column fighting to dismantle junta battalions one by one,” the campaign aims to raise 500 million kyats within a 25-day period. The Cobra Column and its allied columns are currently intensifying their military operations to seize junta bases and expand their controlled territories. This fundraising initiative is intended to address the heightened demand for ammunition resulting from the escalating battles.

5. Rockets strike on Taungoo Air Force Base destroys two fighter jets

Reportedly, the Taungoo Air Force Base was targeted in a rocket strike around 8:45 p.m. on March 14, resulting in the destruction of two fighter jets. The operation was conducted jointly by the Brave Warriors for Myanmar (BWM) and the Mountain Knights Civilian Defense Force (MKCDF), employing five 107-mm rockets. Three rockets successfully struck the air base, destroying two fighter jets, while the other two reportedly malfunctioned.

Alongside the destruction of the aircraft, an aviation instructor sustained critical head injuries, and an air force officer along with three sergeants suffered minor injuries, according to statements from the two groups.

The two groups asserted that Taungoo Air Force Base served as a primary junta air force facility, conducting airstrikes in ethnic areas against revolutionary forces and consistently targeting civilians, including children. They said that this operation was part of their efforts to counter the cruelty of the junta’s air forces.

6. KNU displays cache of seized weapons and ammunition following capture of Hpa Lu Gyi outpost in Karen State

On March 15, the Karen National Union (KNU) revealed a cache of weapons and ammunition seized along with the junta’s 275th Infantry Battalion in Hpa Lu Gyi village, located south of Myawaddy in Karen State. A revolutionary coalition led by the 6th Brigade of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the armed wing of the KNU, accomplished the capture of Hpa Lu Gyi outpost at around 5:30 p.m. on March 11.

Despite the outpost being under military occupation for about 35 years, reports indicate that its capture lasted only five minutes, attributed to the limited number of junta troops present, although they received reinforcement from junta-backed militia.

According to the KNU statement, all remaining junta troops stationed at the Hpa Lu Gyi outpost fled towards the Thai border. Among the seized items were 46 boxes of 0.5 light machine gun ammunition (each containing 100 rounds), 1,000 rounds of 5.56-mm ammunition, 14,668 rounds of 7.62-mm ammunition, one MA-7 (60-mm cannon) and its accessories, one MG-3 machine gun, one M16 A1 gun, one magazine of M16 A1, one MA-3 gun, one magazine of MA-3, one M-13 Carbine, one AK gun, 20 rounds of 60-mm cannon ammunition, 11 rounds of RPG grenades, one round of 81mm cannon ammunition, 63 rounds of 40-mm ammunition, 6 bulletproof helmets, as well as various other military equipment and rations.

It was reported that members of the revolutionary coalition incurred no injuries during the operation.

7. Families of Myitkyina Air Force Base urgently evacuated in public planes amid intense fighting in Kachin State, followed by boosting base security by junta

According to the Northern Brothers People’s Defence Force (NBPDF), a revolutionary guerrilla force based in Kachin State, families of air force personnel stationed at the military junta’s Air Force Base in Myitkyina were evacuated from Kachin State via public planes. Subsequently, the military junta increased security measures around the base and tightened control over the town’s entry and exit points. Additionally, reports suggest that the junta has deployed artillery units in certain government offices on the outskirts of Myitkyina and within some Buddhist monasteries.

In recent times, the military junta has gradually lost control of its bases in Kachin State due to ongoing offensives by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA).
