1. Civilian Groups Celebrate Historic Victory in the Northeast Command Seizure
The seizure of the Northeast Command, which had been under the control of the oppressive military for nearly 60 years, has been hailed as a historic victory by 259 civilian organizations. The northern alliance forces collaborated to take over this command, marking a significant milestone in the fight against the military regime. The civilian groups have issued a statement celebrating the coordinated efforts of the federal democratic forces that led to the dismantling of the military’s control.
This victory, including strategic battles to seize cities, demonstrated the united power of federal democratic forces in disintegrating the military junta. The civilian organizations have also recognized the respectful treatment of officers and soldiers, who were subjected to orders from the military leader Min Aung Hlaing, in accordance with international military conduct.
The statement acknowledges the contribution of various resistance forces, including those who participated in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and ethnic armed resistance groups. These groups have politically supported the nationwide non-violent resistance movements against the illegal military coup attempted by Min Aung Hlaing’s junta in February 2021.
Additionally, the civilian organizations have expressed gratitude to the ethnic armed resistance groups for their unwavering support to various revolutionary forces that chose armed resistance due to the violent suppression of peaceful civilian protests by the military.
The historic victory in capturing the Northeast Command was achieved through coordinated military operations involving various allied forces. These operations included the 1027 operation by the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA, the 1111 operation by the Karenni resistance forces, regional joint operations by the KNU/KNLA and allies, the 0307 operation by the KIA and allies, and the operations in Rakhine and Ta’ang regions. These efforts have led to the seizure of numerous military camps and the establishment of liberated areas free from the military’s control.
The civilian groups have recognized the collective support and sacrifices made by various resistance forces in dismantling the oppressive military regime. They have also highlighted the importance of protecting and promoting human rights, women’s and children’s rights, labor rights, and socio-economic rights in the liberated areas. The groups urge for policies that ensure the respect and protection of these rights, as well as the rights to religious belief, language, and cultural practices of the diverse local populations.
