6. 20 prisoners, including political prisoners, from Loikaw Prison have served full prison terms but are still detained
The Karenni Political Prisoners Association (KPPA) and Political Prisoners Network – Myanmar (PPNM) have issued a joint statement revealing that despite completing their prison sentences, 20 individuals, including political prisoners, are being unjustly detained at Loikaw Prison in Loikaw, Karenni State, under the guise of security reasons.
Joint Statement (2/2024) stated as follows:
“14 criminal prisoners who were released on January 4, 2024, from Loikaw prison and 6 political prisoners who were detained for political reasons, 20 in total have not returned to their respective families.
It was learnt that the prison authorities are still holding the released prisoners in the prison under the pretext of the security situation in Loikaw city.
The continued detention of such prisoners by the authorities for various reasons is a violation of human rights.
Therefore, we request the ICRC and the United Nations OCHA to assist and intervene in instructing the Department of Prisons the immediate release of the (14) criminal prisoners who have completed serving their sentences and also political prisoners who should be released, and the repatriation of freed prisoners at time of conflict.”
According to PPNM records, there are about 500 prisoners, including political prisoners, in the Loikaw Prison.
7. Deputy Commander-in-Chief Mawi attended the graduation ceremony of the basic military training of the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force recruits
Karenni Nationalities Defense Force – KNDF- B08 has informed that Deputy Commander-in-Chief Mawi attended the graduation ceremony of the basic military training of the Karenni National Defense Force recruits.
KNDF- B08’s Basic Military Training Course Batch-4 was conducted for 10 days from January 21 to 31, and the graduation ceremony was held on February 1.
KNDF-B08 announced on February 3 that the Deputy Commander-in-Chief Mawi attended the graduation ceremony, and he explained the military rules and regulations of the KNDF. Then, he gave a welcome speech to the new recruits.
8. Calling for new recruits for Loikaw -based Strategy 7
Since the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) is in need of human resources in Loikaw Township, where the flames of war are raging, the KNDF Central Logistics Unit has invited the public to participate in Loikaw-based Strategy 7.

“As we all know, the flames of war are raging in the Loikaw region now. The people are also suffering, and the military council is burning down public property every day. This situation is happening all over the country, not just in Loikaw. In Karenni, for the past 3 years, the war has been raging in Demoso and other areas, and people have been made homeless. Now it’s happening in Loikaw. To overcome this situation, we need people who will revolutionize the military dictatorship,” said an official of the KNDF Central Logistics Unit.
Regardless of race, religion, and gender, anyone between the ages of 18 and 40 who wants to join the revolution against the military dictator can participate not only in combat but also in the office, medical support, and other sectors.

10. After 6 members of the military council were injured in a landmine attack by CDF Matupi, the junta burned down the entire village of Chan Pyan
CDF Matupi has released that after 6 junta soldiers were injured due to a mine attack by CDF Matupi’s on the junta column from IB-304 based in Matupi Town, which was marching towards the Mindat-Matupi Union road in Chin State, the junta column burned down the entire village of Chan Pyan (B).
On February 1, CDF Matupi attacked the IB-304 column with a force of around 200 marching towards the village of Chan Pyan (B) on the Mindat – Matupi road, and 6 soldiers were injured. The suffered junta troops burned down the civilian houses in Chan Pyan (B) Village for no reason at around 8 a.m. on February 2.
About half of the 200-strong column has retreated towards Matupi town, but there are still about 100 strong left, so the CDF-Matupi has warned the public not to use the Mindat-Matupi Union road and not to go hunting since the fighting can happen at any time.
11. In Thanbyuzayat, Taung Nyo Column arrested 2 militia, including the leader, along with weapons

In the arrest, he, militia member U Maung, and 4 workers, were arrested without resisting, and a 5-bore gun, 11 rounds of 0.380 ammunition, an AK 47 rifle and 20 cartridges were seized from U Cartoon. Furthermore, it is reported that militia guns—two AK-47 rifles, one M16 rifle, and 21 rounds of ammunition—were recovered from the house of U Cartoon.
Among those captured, 4 unrelated workers were released, and two militia, including the leader, were detained in accordance with the law established by the Southern Military Regional Command by Taung Nyo Column Company 1. It is also reported that they will be handed over to the relevant parties.
