1. The Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) held a meeting with the township people’s administrative bodies of Sagaing Division
On February 9, the meeting between the NUG’s Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Sagaing Division (12/2024) was held. At the meeting, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, a member of ILACC, gave an opening speech.
Following, officials from ministries explained the activities of relevant ministries, and then members of the township people’s administrative bodies exchanged views with relevant officials regarding policies, directions, activities, and challenges encountered on the ground.
The meeting was attended by Permanent Secretaries, Associate Secretaries, officials from ministries, and leaders and members of the township people’s administrative bodies of Sagaing Division.
2. The Presidential Spokesperson attended the Canadian Parliament Symposium, and Myanmar’s Current Crisis and Impact on Neighboring Countries
The spokesperson of the National Unity Government’s President Office, U Kyaw Zaw, attended the symposium on international development and the rise of global conflicts between geopolitical constraints held at the Parliament of Canada, Ottawa, Canada, on February 7, at the invitation of the organizers.
The symposium was chaired by Canadian MP Garnett Genuis (Shadow Minister of International Development) and attended by international diplomats, parliamentarians, officials from international organizations, and researchers. During the symposium, U Kyaw Zaw, spokesperson of the National Unity Government’s Presidential Office, discussed the geopolitical effects and the socio-economic development of Myanmar.
In addition, U Kyaw Zaw, spokesperson of the National Unity Government’s Presidential Office, attended and participated in a discussion on Myanmar’s Current Crisis and Impact on Neighboring Countries in the region, which was led by the South Asian Institute of Policy and Governance (SIPG) of North South University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on January 31, 2024.
At the meeting, U Kyaw Zaw, the spokesperson of the presidential office, elaborated on the Myanmar Spring Revolution and the prevailing political conditions in Myanmar, and also emphasized that the outcome of the ongoing revolution in Myanmar could significantly impact the stability and interests of neighboring countries in the region.
3. The 4,251 people who were unlawfully arrested, tortured, and killed included 2 NLD members of Parliament, 100 party members, and 314 underage children
The Central Work Committee of the National League for Democracy announced on February 8 that the 4,251 people who were unlawfully arrested, tortured, and killed included 2 members of parliament, 100 party members, and 314 underage children.
According to the data collected by the Human Rights Documentation Team (National League for Democracy) (HRDT-NLD) as of January 15, 2024, the 4,251 people who were unlawfully arrested, tortured, and killed, included 2 members of parliament, 100 party members, and 314 underage children.
Furthermore, the terrorist military council has been repeatedly targeting and attacking offices of the National League for Democracy, with the intention of harming its members and disrupting its offices. There were a total of 164 vandalisms, including the National League for Democracy Central Office (Yangon) – 3 times, region and state offices – 15 times, district offices – 6 times, township offices – 112 times, and ward offices – 28 times.
4. 47 political prisoners from Kyaikmaraw Prison are on hunger strike
According to the Political Prisoners Network – Myanmar (PPNM), 47 political prisoners from Kyaikmaraw Prison in Kyaikmaraw Township, Mon State, are on hunger strike to get 3 demands.
Starting at 10:00 a.m. on February 6, 47 political prisoners said they would go on an indefinite hunger strike until the prison authorities granted their three demands.
Their demands are to provide the 2 political prisoners who were under interrogation with a daily medical checkup, to move them to a suitable place other than solitary confinement immediately, to return them to their original residence immediately after the interrogation is over, and to call the prisoners for questioning only during office hours.
“All the requested points are only possible points. These are the points stipulated in the prison law. I would like to say that taking a prisoner outside the law at night like this, except for a medical emergency, and for prison transfer after the prohibiting time, is violating the law themselves,” said Ko Thike Tun Oo from PPNM.
On the night of February 4, when the prison was closed, two men, Ko Thet Maung Maung Soe and Ko Thet Zaw, were brought from dormitory (3) on the pretext of finding a cell phone in the prison, and they were beaten and put in solitary confinement.
The Political Prisoners Network – Myanmar (PPNM) stated in a statement that a prison employee confirmed that the two phones were not actually found in their possession when they searched the prison.
Therefore, the political prisoners who are on hunger strike have informed that they have requested 3 demands: to prevent extrajudicial proceedings, to act in accordance with human rights, and to have easy access to health care during the interrogation of the prisoners from Kyaikmaraw Prison.
It is reported that the health condition of the 47 political prisoners is in critical condition since they have been on hunger strike for a few days, and the prison authorities have yet to respond.
Furthermore, 164 political prisoners are reportedly taking part in the strike by abstaining from eating prison meals in solidarity with the political prisoners on hunger strike.
On December 7, 2022, political prisoners from Kyaikmaraw Prison also went on a hunger strike against the military council’s death sentence for 7 students from Dagon University.
5. From January 1 to February 9, 2024, 157 men were killed by the junta across the country, with 45 men killed by the junta airstrikes
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) stated this in its daily briefing in relation to the military coup updated on February 9.
It stated, “According to the data collected by the AAPP, from January 1 to February 9, 2024, (157) men were killed by the junta across the country, with (25) boys who were under the age of 18. Among (157) deceased, Sagaing Region records the highest number of fatalities with (46) victims followed by Rakhine State as the second highest number of deaths with (30) people. In addition, among (157) deaths, (45) people were killed by the junta’s airstrikes recording the highest number of deaths followed by (44) people killed after being detained by the junta recording the second-highest number of fatalities.”

More than a hundred comrades from the battalion units in the strategic area attended the Batch 3 basic military training of KNDF Strategy No. 6. The graduation ceremony was attended by Karenni State Army (KA) commanders, KNDF officials, some family members of the trainees, and invited guests and organizations.
At the graduation ceremony of KNDF Strategy No. 6, the comrades who completed the training and were ready to take on the revolutionary duties for the country and the people, conducted military parade using some of the weapons seized from the military council. The KNDF Headquarters announced that it is also aimed at improving morale.
8. A drone bombardment conducted on the military council camp near Shwe Dar Lake, Shwebo
The BGS Drone Force informed that they conducted an aerial bombardment using drones on a military council camp near Shwe Dar Lake, southwest of the Shwebo Palace, Sagaing Division.
It is said that one 120-mm hand-made grenade and 3 60-mm grenades were dropped on the building where about 100-strong military council troops were based. The military council troops were injured due to the attack, and the subsequent reports are still being investigated. It is reported that the military council troops fired back with heavy and small arms for a long time, but the people’s defense comrades were not harmed.
The attack was led by the BGS Ayadaw Drone Force at the invitation of the Shwebo Buffalo Soldiers and local revolutionary forces, and was coordinated by the Ayadaw Rocket LPDF.
The BGS Ayadaw Drone Force and the revolutionary forces of Ayadaw Township used drones to drop 2 120 mm hand-made bombs on the water tank guardhouse and bachelor hall of the No. 5004 Armored Battalion in Ayadaw Town on the night of February 7.
9. The Thayarwaddy District Battalion 01 announced that 3 policemen may be killed in the attack on the military council’s Okpho Tarsone security gate
The Thayarwaddy District Battalion 01 announced that three policemen may be killed and 4 injured when the people’s defense forces attacked a military council’s security gate that threatened local residents and demanded money in Okpho Township, Thayarwaddy District, western Bago Division.
On February 9, at around 5:40 a.m., the Gyobingauk HERO guerrilla force, which is Company 5 of the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 01, attacked the military council’s Okpho Tarsone checkpoint in Okpho Township, beside the Yangon-Pyay road. As a result of the attack, 3 policemen under the military council may have been killed and 4 were seriously injured, according to initial reports. The people’s defense forces informed that they were able to retreat unharmed, although the military council soldiers returned fire.
Local news sources said that military council soldiers and police officers at the checkpoint often demand tens of thousands of kyats from local people, and that they are conducting strict inspections because of the attack.
Therefore, the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 01 has urged the local residents not to live and socialize with Pyu Saw Htee members, the military council supporters.
10. A military council’s warship was bombed with drones in Launglon Township
Launglone People Defence Force (LLPDF) announced that 5 junta soldiers were seriously injured in a drone attack on a military council’s warship in Launglon Township, Tanintharyi Division.
The People’s Defense Forces cooperated in attacking the warship that entered along the Dawei River from the sea by firing recklessly at the villages along the banks of the river with heavy and small arms without any fighting.
On February 6, around 6:00 p.m., Butterfly Platoon of Launglone People Defence Force (LLPDF) (Launglon PaKaFa) and Federal Polaris Force-FPF attacked the military council navy warship No. 423, which entered the Dawei River, using drop bombs with drones.
After being attacked, the warship opened fire on villages along the river banks with machine guns, as well as fired at least 15 rounds with heavy weapons before retreating, according to LLPDF.
It is said that due to the bomb attack, the warship deck was damaged, 5 junta soldiers were seriously injured, and the People’s Defense Forces lost a drone.
Warship No. 423 was the warship that helped fire heavy weapons in the Launglon battle on January 30, 2023, from the western sea, as released by the LLPDF.

Yesagyo PaKaFa confirmed that on February 9, at around 11:00 p.m., they were able to conduct a close-range-attack on a car and a vanguard motorcycle of the junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee members coming out of Sin Chaung (Pyu) Village in Yesagyo Township somewhere on the Pakokku-Yesagyo highway.
As a result of the attack, one Pyu member and a junta soldier were killed. 5 junta soldiers who ran away from the car were chased but escaped with injuries.
The follow-up conditions of the 5 junta soldiers who ran away with injuries were still investigated, and a G3 gun and a carbine were seized from them.
After the enemy’s weapons were collected, the defense forces were able to retreat unharmed. The attack was cooperatively carried out by the Yesagyo Township People’s Defense Force (PaKaFa), Pakokku Township People’s Defense Force (PaKaFa Company-2), and Southern Yesagyo PDF.

The Young Force UG informed that on February 9, around 9:00 a.m., defense forces bombarded the military council troops who were hiding between Chaukkan and Letpankan villages in Pakokku Township, Magway Division.
After the attack, the military council troops recklessly opened fire at the villages inhabited by civilians with heavy weapons and small arms.
The casualties of the military council troops are still under investigation, and the attack was carried out in cooperation with Myaing-Pakokku alliance forces.
13. A member of the military council who defected to the Mandalay People’s Defence Force along with weapons was awarded
On February 9, the Mandalay People’s Defence Force informed that a member of the military council defected along with weapons and he was given reward.
It is said that a reward was given to a member of the military council who defected to the Mandalay People’s Defence Force along with one MA-3 rifle, 3 magazines, and 250 rounds of ammunition. The Mandalay People’s Defence Force has also informed that the soldiers of the military council who want to side with the people and enter the legal fold are warmly welcomed.
