1. The chairman of KNDF said that Mese Town has been completely controlled
Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) chairman Khun Be Htoo said on television that they have gained 100 percent control over the town of Mese in Karenni.
This was included in the 2024 Revolutionary New Year greetings addressed to KNDF comrades and the public.
“Currently, full authority over Mese has been obtained, granting our people control over all the wood and bamboo in the area to reconstruct Pantein Village.
Crucially, the immediate benefits include the restoration of freedom and dignity to Mese Township, along with Pantein.
By 2024, we must swiftly commence the necessary actions to mend the destruction, with a particular emphasis on achieving victory for democracy and independence,” he said.

2. The KNU gave an ultimatum with 4 points, including that the military should leave politics and be under the rule of the civilian population
In his New Year’s speech on January 1, 2024, KNU spokesperson Padoh Saw Toney said that the KNU gave an ultimatum with four points, including the fact that the coup military should leave politics and remain under the rule of the civilian population.
“These four points are the proposed solutions for the military dictator to step down and represent our ultimatum. By adhering to these points, those in power will be able to come to a satisfactory resolution, and can be regarded as a good way towards a federal democratic nation,” explained Padoh Saw Toney.
The four points are: the military must leave politics; the military must be transformed and be under the rule of the elected civilians; the military must take accountability for its past actions, both major and minor, through transitional justice processes; and the ultimatum has been given that no one can be exempted from committing such crimes.
Moreover, if we are to establish a new federal union, a new constitution must be drafted, and political discussions need to continue even after the overthrow of the dictatorship.
The people’s revolution is ongoing, and the KNU urges everyone to unite with revolutionary organizations in order to bring an end to the military dictatorship, and it can be regarded as a good way for the federal democratic country that we will move forward in,” said Padoh Saw Toney.
