1. Union Minister Prof. Win Myat Aye Emphasizes the Need to Eliminate Inequality to Prevent Future Tragic Scenarios
Union Minister Prof. Win Myat Aye delivered a brief statement titled “Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future” on the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) on October 13. In his statement, he expressed:
“We are building our own future. Justice must be served. Inequality must be eliminated. Tragic occurrences like these must not recur. This is the commitment of the ‘Spring Revolution.’ We reiterate our pledge today. We must remain undivided; we must be united.”
Since the military seized control of the state on February 1, 2021, they have killed more than 4,000 people and arrested more than 20,000 others.
2. Deputy Minister U Maw Htun Aung Pledges to Pursue Justice in the Mung Lai Hkyet IDP Camp Incident, Advocating for Prosecution at an International Military Tribunal
In a resolute declaration made on October 10, NUG Deputy Minister U Maw Htun Aung has taken a bold stance on the Mung Lai Hkyet IDP camp incident. He stated, “One day, we must be able to prosecute all those who supported and collaborated with the military junta in this incident at an international military tribunal like Nuremberg.”
The Mung Lai Hkyet IDP camp, located near Laiza in Kachin State, fell victim to a heinous attack by the military junta at midnight hours on October 9. The assault, which included aerial bombardments and heavy artillery, resulted in numerous casualties, including 30 fatalities among local residents and internally displaced individuals, while also causing injuries to 57 others, with high-explosive bombs causing devastation over a wide area. Among the fatalities were nine children, including a two-month-old infant, as well as an 81-year-old elderly individual.
3. Guerrilla Attack on Junta Troops at 5-Ton Bearing Bridge on Kawkareik-Myawaddy Road, an Asian Highway Segment, Leaves Three Dead
Daw Na Column of the People’s Defence Force (PDF) in the Southern Command issued a statement on October 13 detailing the guerrilla attack that targeted junta troops deployed on the Kawkareik-Myawaddy Road. According to the statement, on October 11, 2023, at 3:30 p.m., a joint operation involving the Daw Na Column and the KNLA alliance executed a guerrilla attack at a checkpoint situated at a 5-ton bearing bridge along the Kawkareik-Myawaddy Road, a segment of the Asian Highway network. Approximately 20 junta troops from Infantry Battalion No. 201, operating under the 22nd Infantry Division, were posted at the bridge checkpoint, where they were involved in collecting extortion money.
Daw Na Column revealed that a meticulous process of information gathering was carried out prior to the attack, enabling the precise identification of military targets. Sniper rifles of 0.338 caliber and 40mm artillery were employed to engage the enemy junta troops. As a result, three junta troops were killed, and several others sustained injuries in the engagement.
During the engagement, the junta troops reportedly returned fire with an 81mm mortar, machine guns, and MA rifles at the revolutionary allied forces. However, the allied forces executed a successful retreat without incurring any casualties.
4. Mines Target Military Column Returning from Burning Civilian Houses in Myaung Township, Leaving Two Dead
On October 13, the Myaung Bo Tauk Tun (MBTT) force reported a mine attack against the military column returning from burning civilian houses in Myaung Township. The military column that departed from Kyauk Yit village, Myaung Township, torched civilian houses in Gaung Kwel village. On October 12, when they were on the way to invade Zee Kyun village, MBTT used homemade mines to ambush them once at about 3:00 p.m. and again at 5:20 p.m. The attack resulted in the deaths of two junta troops and injuries to many others.
5. Rockets Strike Military-Owned Myanmar Beer Factory in Yangon
The military-owned Myanmar Beer factory, which serves as a source of income for the terrorist military, in Mingaladon Township, Yangon, was targeted in an attack using two 107mm improvised rockets.
The attack was conducted by an urban guerrilla group in Yangon, known as the Urban Special Operation (U.S.O), at approximately 7:00 p.m. on October 12.
A member of the urban guerrilla group confirmed the incident, stating, “The incident is true. Details will be released soon.”
Local residents reported that the rockets fell and exploded within the factory premises. Further details regarding the extent of the damage are yet to be confirmed.
6. Public Mobilization Campaign Promotes Boycott of Military Products and Services in Launglon Township Village Markets
A public mobilization campaign was conducted in village markets in Launglon Township to promote boycotts of military-owned products and services. The campaign was led by the Public Mobilization Sub-Committee of the Dawei District Democracy Movement Strike Committee (DDMC) on the morning of October 13.
As part of the second phase of the Financial Warfare campaign in October and November, this campaign encouraged boycotts against eight other military-owned products and services. This includes the Aung Bar Lay lottery, various Nan Myaing brand coffee products, Shwe Pe Oo brand tea mix and lemon tea, as well as the Shwe Man Thu express bus line, Pathein Thu express bus line, Than Myan Thu express bus line, and Shan Ma Lay express bus line.
In the first phase of the Financial Warfare campaign in August and September, the focus was on boycotting the first eight military-owned products.
