1. Union Prime Minister claims terrorist military council is preparing to print money, dragging currency down to the bottom
At the Cabinet meeting no. 25/2023 of the National Unity Government held on July 25, Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann remarked: “Following the United States’ sanction on the military council’s two banks, the Myanmar Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB) and the Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank (MICB), their financial sector is observed to be facing a dire situation. Now they are preparing to print money and drag the country’s currency down to the bottom. In countries where egoistic people are trying to rule, people will continue to suffer from all sides. The military council can no longer hold their own, arresting and changing their own people. Those who have done evil come to a point where they are afraid of their own shadow and can’t trust anyone.”
Following the military council’s announcement on July 23 that new 20,000 kyat banknotes would be issued, there has been a rise in the cost of food and other consumer goods in the country.
2. Union Minister U Tin Tun Naing urges exerting strength to push down crippled enemy on the verge of collapse
In the last week of July, U Tin Tun Naing, Union Minister for the Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment of the National Unity Government, gave the following exhortation regarding the Spring Revolution:
“In this revolution, martyrs and heroes are scarifying their lives every hour, minute, and second. Seeing and hearing more and more events like that, we must not have any feeling of getting used to them or getting numb in the slightest. This is a match where everything we see, hear, and learn must be turned into revolutionary strength, together with anger, to march towards our goal. This is a match that has to be recorded as our victory. The enemy is crippled from all sides and is about to collapse, so let’s use all our strength to push them down.”
The military council is not only losing military ground but has also recently faced U.S. sanctions on its two banks, which are its main channels of foreign income and buying arms.
3. Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe says terrorist military junta no longer able to control ground and commits air attack against the population
In an interview with the “People to People” program in the third week of July, Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe spoke:
“Our challenges need money. Another one is that we need unity. They [the military junta] are causing harm to the population from the air during the armed revolution. They can no longer take control of the ground. Therefore, they are using air. If possible, it will be best for us if we can control them, defend them, and destroy them. Then today’s revolution will be over tomorrow.”
Due to the terrorist military’s air attack, nine people, including a CDM school principle and his family, who were displaced, were killed on April 10, 2023, in Chin State’s Webula new town. Also, a total of 174 people, the majority of whom were women and children, were killed in the terrorist military’s air attack on Pazigyi village in Sagaing Region’s Kanbalu Township on April 11, 2023.
4. U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York convicts a Burmese national in conspiracy to assault Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun
Phyo Hein Htut, a 28-year-old Burmese national residing in New York, conspired to assault Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun, Permanent Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations, in collaboration with an arms dealer in Thailand. During the conspiracy, he supplied information to the arms dealer about the Ambassador, the Permanent Mission Office and the mission personnel.
The statement dated July 24 of the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York states that Phyo Hein Htut was found guilty after an eight-day trial before U.S. District Judge Nelson S. Román and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 14, 2024, before Judge Román.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced the arrests of two Myanmar citizens, Phyo Hein Htut, 28, and Ye Hein Zaw, 20, who were residing in New York, in a plot to assault or kill Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun.
5. Terrorist junta troops destroyed civilian houses, schools, and religious buildings in Masa Tui village in Chin State’s Kanpetlet
On July 25, the Khonuam Battalion of the CDF-Kanpetlet released a statement reporting the terrorist military junta’s rampage in Kanpetlet Township.
“While the junta column that was going to send rations to [the military troops stationed in] Kyindway village spent the night in Masa Tui village, which is located in Kanpetlet Township, they destroyed public buildings and houses,” the statement said.
“They occupied areas, got drunk, and killed and ate domestic animals in religious buildings, in addition to stealing and damaging properties from religious buildings, schools, and civilian houses,” the statement continued.
It was reported that computers, document files, and school belongings were also taken from the schools, and that the details of the damage were still being collected.
6. KNU announces 11 terrorist soldiers killed and 4 injured in Battalion 27 of the KNLA 6th Brigade’s 2-day clash
The Karen Nation Union (KNU) released a statement on July 25 regarding Battalion 27 of the KNLA 6th Brigade’s 2-day clash with the junta forces.
According to the statement, on July 22, 2023, at 6:30 p.m., an exchange of fire broke out between Battalion No. 27 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the terrorist military junta forces near Wel Won village in Thanbyuzayat Township, which is located in Win Yay Township of the KNU’s Brigade 6th Dooplaya District. One junta soldier was killed and another was reportedly injured as a result of exchanging fire between the two sides, while the KNLA revolutionary comrades suffered no injuries.
Another exchange of fire broke out between the two sides on July 23 at about 6:30 p.m. near Wel Won village, and four more terrorist junta soldiers were killed and junta’s company commander Win Min Khaing was injured, according to the KNU statement. One KNLA member suffered injuries during the fight, while two others lost their lives and two of their weapons.
On July 23, 2023, at about 9:30 a.m., the Battalion No. 27 of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the allied revolutionary resistance forces ambushed a junta’s military convoy of three vehicles that was returning from Thanbyuzayat Town to Ye Town when they arrived near Pyaw Tharyar village, which is located in Win Yay Township of the KNU’s Brigade 6th Dooplaya District. One vehicle was destroyed, four junta soldiers were killed and two others were injured in the ambush, said the statement.
Then, at about 1:43 p.m., on the same day, three military vehicles returning from Pyaw Tharyar village to Ye Town were attacked again by the KNLA-allied forces when they arrived near Peinhnetaw village cemetery, killing two more junta soldiers.
