1. The Union Prime Minister urges the establishment of an interim administrative mechanism to end the junta’s administrative authority
Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann urged the following at the meeting (21/2023) of the Interim Local Administrative Central Committee (ILACC) held on May 25:
- To establish an interim administrative mechanism to end the junta’s administrative authority;
- To restore justice in order to protect the people and enforce the governance of the National Unity Government;
- To continue to implement the good intentions to ensure that humanitarian assistance can reach the people smoothly with collective forces;
- For the administrative and defence groups in the territories under control to make efforts to maintain communication links, provide timely air traffic information to the community level, and have information release systems that people can rely on.
The meeting was chaired by Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann and attended by Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and officials from relevant departments.
2. NUG’s Union Ministers Dr. Zaw Wai Soe and U Htin Linn Aung met with members of the California State Senate as well as members of the Myanmar community in California
On May 24 and 25, the National Unity Government’s Union Ministers Dr. Zaw Wai Soe and U Htin Linn Aung, who were on a work trip in the United States, met with the members of the Myanmar community in California and the California State Senate members, respectively.
Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Union Minister for Education and Health, and U Htin Linn Aung, Union Minister for Communications, Information and Technology, arrived in Sacramento, the capital of California, on May 24, 2023, and had a community meeting with Myanmar people residing in the Sacramento and Central Valley areas. About 100 Myanmar people reportedly attended the meeting and donated more than $30,000 to be used for the development of health, education, communications, information, and technology for the people in Myanmar.
Then, on the morning of May 25, the two Union Ministers of the National Unity Government arrived at the California State Senate, where the state senators welcomed and greeted them. In the afternoon, the Union Ministers had a separate discussion on Myanmar affairs with Senator Benjamin J. Allen.
3. In Indaw Township, the village was compelled to send five young ladies every day to serve junta military officers who were stationed at the Nant Thar-Aung Kone monastery
On May 24, the Northern ABSDF reported: “It was reported that Nant Thar-Aung Kone village in the western part of Indaw Township, Sagaing Division, was compelled to send five young ladies every day to serve junta military officers who were stationed at the village monastery.”
The ABSDF stated that in accordance with a secret report by a watermelon (a nickname for those soldiers or government staff under the control of the military who secretly support the resistance movement) who couldn’t stand anymore the fact that the villagers couldn’t dare to complain in fear of their village being harmed, the ABSDF column and allies were conducting casual military activities in Indaw Township.
4. In Thabeikkyin Township, two FAW dump trucks filled with junta soldiers were detonated as they were returning after torching Suu Taw village
On May 26, the Thabeikkyin Township People’s Defence Group (Pa-Ka-Fa Kyar Hnyap) claimed that it had ambushed and detonated two FAW dump trucks filled with junta soldiers on May 24 as they were returning after torching Suu Taw village when they arrived near Twin Nge village.
It was stated that the attack might result in causalities among junta soldiers and that the members of the local defence forces were safe.
5. The revolutionary resistance forces launched a mine attack against a junta column at the Shwebo-KhinU-Myitkyina road intersection, resulting in the deaths of four junta soldiers
On May 26, the A.R.F. KU group claimed that the local revolutionary resistance forces had launched a mine attack against a junta column at the Shwebo-KhinU-Myitkyina road intersection in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Division.
It stated, “It was learned that a terrorist military column that spent last night in Myay Ni Sho village of Khin-U Township had left for the Shwebo training camp this morning, and three trucks came and brought them. Yesterday, according to local groups, they were attacked with mines by revolutionary resistance forces at the Shwebo-KhinU-Myitkyina road intersection, resulting in four deaths.”
The military forces reportedly burned the dead bodies of the soldiers along with civilian houses in Myay Ni Sho village before they left the village.
6. A Thai-Myanmar historical drama TV series starring film actor Daung won two awards
The Thai-Myanmar historical drama TV series “From Chao Phraya to Irrawaddy,” starring film actor Daung, won two awards, the Creative Team of the Year Award and the Drama of the Year Award, at the Nine Entertainment Awards 2023 held in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 25.
Actor Daung attended the award ceremony and expressed his gratitude and consideration to his fans from the stage of the ceremony.
