September 13

Myanmar’s National Unity Government (NUG) has called on the public to participate in its Disaster Relief Fund program to help flood-affected people within the country. The Ministry of Planning, Finance, and Investment under NUG, through NUGPay, has implemented the Disaster Relief Fund initiative, which does not have a set campaign deadline. The fund will be used to provide continuous support to those in need, with donations being distributed as soon as they reach MMK 50 lakhs. The government assures that all donations will be updated to the public, as the relief efforts continue. NUG also urged everyone to show love and solidarity to overcome hardships in times of disaster.

Additionally, Spring Development Bank is also coordinating with the NUG’s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM) to raise funds for flood-affected areas until September 20. The bank has encouraged its users and members across the country to contribute to this cause.

Relief workers have struggled to reach these areas as travel by land is impossible, with boats being the only viable means of transport. Water from the seven spillways of Meiktila South Lake is flooding into Tharsi Minhla Lake and continues to flow towards Samon Dam.
