Union Minister of International Cooperation Dr. Sasa said on Twitter on July 9 that action is needed to end atrocities and crimes against humanity.
“The people of Myanmar have suffered so much for so long under the genocidal military junta. Listen to the update from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. Action is needed to end atrocities and crimes against humanity,” Dr. Sasa tweeted.
At the 53rd Human Rights Council Session, both the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar, Mr. Tom Andrews, submitted their reports.
The report detailed the terrorist military junta’s atrocities, including the deaths of children and the proliferation of political prisoners, and called for a referral to the International Criminal Court.
2. The NUG Human Rights Minister expressed his gratitude for the international interest in Myanmar affairs
On July 9, U Aung Myo Min, Union Minister for NUG Human Rights, expressed his gratitude for the international interest in Myanmar affairs.
“At the 53rd Session of the Human Rights Council, both the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Special Rapporteur on human rights situations in Myanmar, Mr. Tom Andrews, submitted their reports on Myanmar. Both reports contain peculiar points as well as common points. The first common point is that they strongly said that the current human rights, criminal, and terrorist cases in Myanmar have reached the level of serious violations of international human rights and international humanitarian laws. Thank you for your international interest in Myanmar affairs. Thank you for discussing Myanmar affairs,” the Union Minister said.
At the 53rd Human Rights Council Session, the High Commissioner for Human Rights said that there are more than 19,000 people who have been arrested so far, and the number of those who have been killed and tortured has been mentioned by citing.
Among Mr. Tom Andrew’s reports on children, over 800 children have died, over 387 children are still being held in prison, and 81 children have been held hostage because their family members have not been arrested.
3. The Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) held a meeting with the township people’s administrative bodies of Tanintharyi, Ayeyarwady and Bago Divisions
On July 9, the meeting between the NUG’s Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Tanintharyi, Ayeyarwady and Bago Divisions (26/2023) was held.
At the meeting, Union Minister for Labour U Nai Tun Pe @ U Nai Suwunna, a member of ILACC, gave an opening speech.
Following, officials from ministries explained the activities of relevant ministries, and then members of the township people’s administrative bodies exchanged views with relevant officials regarding policies, directions, operations, and challenges encountered on the ground. Then, Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, who is also a member of the ILACC, gave a closing speech.
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Associate Secretaries, officials from ministries, and members of the township people’s administrative bodies of Tanintharyi, Ayeyarwady and Bago Divisions.
4. There have been more than 26,000 IDPs on the ground in the entire Tanintharyi Region

There are still 358 permanent war refugees in Dawei Township. Since June 16, due to the entry of military council troops passing through the Ashetaw, heavy weapons firing, and clashes with the people’s defense forces, many local residents have fled from 6 villages such as Pa Khat, Ramazu, Thayet Ngot, Late Kyal Byaung, Thinghantone, and Wakone. Now, some of the locals have returned to their houses, while others are still fleeing the war.
5. The KNU stated that 2,495 major and minor battles broke out with the terrorist military council troops, and a total of 2,632 junta soldiers were killed, including 5 battalion commanders and 5 deputy battalion commanders
On July 9, the KNU-Karen National Union released the military news that occurred in the Kawthoolei administrative areas in the first six months of 2023.
It is said that there were 2,495 major and minor battles between the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (K.N.L.A), the Karen National Defense Organization (K.N.D.O), and forces under the military command of the KNLA and the KNDO, and the terrorist military council troops in the six-month period from January 1, 2023 to June 30, 2023, in the KNU-Karen National Union’s Kawthoolei administration areas.
During these battles, a total of 2,632 junta soldiers, including 5 battalion commanders, 5 deputy battalion commanders, 9 captains, 4 lieutenants, and 5 warrant officers I, were killed, and a total of 1,685 were injured, including a deputy battalion commander. It was damaged. Also, 99 vehicles used for operations by the terrorist military council troops were destroyed.
On the side of the joint forces under the military command of the Karen National Liberation Army (K.N.L.A), and Karen National Defense Force (K.N.D.O), it is said that 76 heroes sacrificed their lives for the country and people, and 257 comrades were injured.
6. All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) Column 3’s Military Training Batch 2 Completion Ceremony was held
The completion ceremony of All Burma Students’ Democratic Front (ABSDF) Column 3’s Chindwin Region Basic Military Training Course (2/2023) Batch (2), was held on July 9 at the Chindwin Region Battalion on the west bank of the Chindwin River in Sagaing Region.
It is reported that not only the ABSDF members, but also a total of 34 allied comrades graduated from the training, and they also took the oath of allegiance.
The competition ceremony was attended by the local township’s PaKaFa, district PDF battalions and the public.
7. A battle broke out between the Cobra Column and the military council near Myawaddy, and 2 were killed and 3 injured on the side of the military council
On July 9, the Cobra Column confirmed that a battle between the Cobra Column and the military council troops took place near Myawaddy, Karen State, and 2 were killed and 3 wounded on the side of the military council.
“On July 9, at around 10:00 a.m., joint forces of the KNU/KNLA Brigade 6, the Cobra Column 1, the Black Leopard, and Federal Wings, clashed with the terrorist military council troops in the Lat Kat Taung area near Myawaddy,” it stated.
In the battle, 2 were killed and 3 injured from the side of the terrorist military council, and there was no damage from the Revolutionary Joint Forces side.
8. A village in Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, was bombarded by junta aircrafts
On the afternoon of July 9, a village in Hpasawng Township, Karenni State, was bombarded by the junta Air Force, according to the Karenni Revolutionary Forces.
On the afternoon of July 9, around 1:30 p.m., jet fighters bombarded a village in Hpasawng Township, Karenni State 8 times without reason.
At the moment, the casualties of the civilians has not known yet.
In 2023, the terrorist military junta used aerial attacks against civilians, and hundreds of civilians were killed in the airstrike on Pazigyi Village in Kanbalu Township, Sagaing Division.
9. Taung Kalay Police Station, Kale-Tagundaing Police Station and the township electrical power corporation of the terrorist military council were exploded with mines and drones for two days in a row
On July 9, the Special Operation Force – S.O.F informed that Taung Kalay Police Station, Kale-Tagundaing Police Station and the Kyainseikgyi Township’s electrical power corporation of the terrorist military council were exploded with mines and drones for two days in a row.
Taung Kalay Police Station in Thanbyuzayat Township, Kale-Tagundaing Police Station, and the township electrical power corporation of the terrorist military council in Kyainseikgyi Township were exploded with clustered mines and drone bombs by the KNLA, the Special Operation Force – S.O.F, and Cloud Wings Drone Force.
On July 6, they attacked Taung Kalay Police Station and Kale-Tagundaing Police Station with 60mm and 81 mm bombs, and on July 7, they continued to detonate Kale-Tagundaing Police Station and the electrical power corporation of Kyainseikgyi Township with clustered mines, 60 mm and 81 mm bombs.
As a result of the attack on July 6, two policemen at the Taung Kalay Police Station were killed and one was seriously injured.
On July 7, a terrorist soldier at Kale-Tagundaing Police Station was killed and five others were wounded. On July 7, two 66/33 KV(30)MVA Main Transformers (AG), two 66/11 KV(30)MVA Main Transformers (AG), control boxes, electrical equipment utilized by the terrorist military council, and buildings were destroyed by fire, amounting to an estimated two thousand million kyats (2 billion kyats). The revolutionary comrades were able to retreat safely.
