Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann said at the Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) meeting with the townships affected by Cyclone Mocha on May 19 that the NUG government has formed 8 working groups (Task Forces) according to sectors in the Emergency Operation Coordination Committee (EOCC) and is managing accordingly.
“While we are all working together to fight man-made disasters, we have faced such a natural disaster again. So it is sure that all of us will be tired, both mentally and physically. However, due to the joint efforts of all of us, we were able to overcome this huge natural disaster without causing too much damage to human lives, and we can say that this is the result of cooperation. Our government has formed 8 working groups (Task Forces) according to sectors in the Emergency Operation Coordination Committee (EOCC) and is managing accordingly. We have also planned budgets ready to be used immediately for emergency sectors,” he said.
Rakhine State, which was the worst affected by Cyclone Mocha, has been supported by the National Unity Government with 1,000 lakh and it is said that it is connecting to continue to help those who need it.

NUG informed that over 84 million MMK worth of Emergency Humanitarian Aid has been provided to the people affected by Cyclone Mocha.
On May 19, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM) announced the Emergency Humanitarian Aid Provision for Cyclone Mocha.
“Our ministry has provided over MMK 84 millions worth of Emergency Humanitarian Aid for Cyclone Mocha victims as of 19th May of 2023,” it stated.
It is reported that Rakhine State and Chin State have been provided the most aid.
In May, UN OCHA Myanmar reported that more than 5.4 million people were affected by the storm and more than 100,000 people in Magway and Sagaing were affected by severe floods.
3. In Kachin State, the terrorist military junta troops are carrying out counter-attacks against revolutionary forces by killing unarmed civilians
Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng, said that in Kachin State, the terrorist military junta troops are carrying out counter-attacks against revolutionary forces by killing unarmed civilians.
“It’s very easy to arrest and kill unarmed civilians, to raid houses, and to burn them down. This does not mean that they’re doing it because they can, but because they’re evil. It’s not that the revolutionary forces, including the KIA and NUG, are sitting by and watching. The terrorist junta troops are intentionally doing those things, as they have damaged a lot. Every time there’s a fight, the terrorist junta troops kill the people of nearby villages where there is no revolutionary defense force or where they have gained control, as they like. We need to see right through this,” the minister stated.
The terrorist military junta is working to gain territorial control over Kachin State, but the Kachin revolutionary forces are fighting back.
4. A total of 159 prisoners have been sentenced to death, of which 42 have been sentenced to death in absentia
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) stated on May 18 that a total of 159 prisoners have been sentenced to death, of which 42 have been sentenced to death in absentia.
“It is verified that five detainees in prisons have been sentenced to death on May 18, 2023. One of them was each sentenced to death twice and the other four were each sentenced to death along with life imprisonment. There are a total of (117) post-coup death row prisoners as of May 18, 2023. (121) people have been sentenced in absentia, of whom (42) have been sentenced to death. This makes a total of (159) people who have been sentenced to death,” it stated.
5. The UK will provide humanitarian support for 175,000 people affected by Cyclone Mocha in northwest Myanmar
On May 19, the UK Embassy in Yangon released the statement described as follows:
“His Majesty King Charles III has issued a message of condolence to those affected by Cyclone Mocha.
His Majesty The King said:
“At this time of desperate need, our special thoughts and prayers are with the communities which have been affected by this dreadful natural disaster, and we send our deepest, heartfelt condolences to those that have lost their loved ones in such a tragedy.”
The UK has also announced it will provide humanitarian support for 175,000 people affected by Cyclone Mocha in northwest Myanmar.
New funding of 2.5 million USD will supply clean water and shelter to vulnerable communities, and help to mitigate the threat of disease. The funding will be provided directly to local and international organisations who are already on the ground in northwest Myanmar and can quickly deliver the lifesaving support that survivors need.”
6. The People’s Defense Force attacked a Faw car and two personal cars of the junta troops passing from In Pin Village to Myaing Township with 12 cluster mines
On May 19, the Earthquake People’s Defence Force stated:
“On May 19, at around 2:00 p.m., comrades of the People’s Defense Force attacked a Faw car and two personal cars of the junta troops passing from In Pin Village to Myaing Township with 12 cluster mines, causing many casualties. Then, they retreated to Pakokku Township.”
The operation was conducted by the Earthquake People’s Defence Force, and the damage is still being investigated.
7. About 150 terrorist junta troops raided Kan Thar Kone Village, Shwebo Township, set fire to houses and arrested nearly 50 locals
On May 19, the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) stated:
“On the morning of May 18, around 150 junta personnel raided Kan Thar Kone Village, Shwebo Township, Sagaing Region, and set fire to houses. They took nearly 50 locals, including children, as human shields. They were taken to Bo Te Kone Monastery in Nyaung Pin Thar Village.”
The terrorist junta troops are raiding and destroying villages every day, and committing arrests, tortures and killings of civilians.
