Summary of News

1. The Acting President says that people are constantly enthusiastic for the eradication of the military dictatorship

Acting President Duwa Lashi La remarked the following at the Cabinet Meeting (18/2023) of the National Unity Government held on May 9:

“I am encouraged to see the people’s continued enthusiasm for the eradication of the military dictatorship. Regardless of the differences of opinion among the public, it is clear that they do not want to live under another military dictatorship again.”

The Spring Revolution emerged along with the public movement against the military dictatorship after the military seized power on February 1, 2021.

“It is natural for the revolution to have a rise and fall and low and high like the tides. In the same way, the tide of public opinion fluctuates, so we must look towards the public’s opinion and work towards the outcome of the revolution,” said the Acting President.

2. The NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration provides the Digital Security Training Course (6/2023) for township people’s administrative bodies 

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, in cooperation with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) Burma Program, provided the sixth digital security training for the members of the township people’s administration bodies. The duration of the training course is two days, from May 13 to May 14, 2023, and it is attended by members of the various township people’s administration groups.

The training was delivered by USIP Burma Program instructors with the aim of making participants aware of the importance of digital security, discussing and identifying their needs with regard to digital security, and empowering them to put the necessary security measures in place when using regular mobile applications and safely sharing and storing digital files, said the announcement.

3. In Tanintharyi Division, a junta jet fighter bombed near the Dawei Special Economic Zone

The Tanintharyi Military Sub-Regional Command released the news regarding the launch of an air attack near the Dawei Special Economic Zone by the junta jet fighter for the first time at 8:26 a.m. on May 14.

It stated, “On May 14, at 8:26 a.m., the military council jet plane dropped a bomb near the Dawei Special Economic Zone. The plane was a jet fighter. It took off from Myeik Air Force Base, and after drooping the bomb, it flew back in the Myeik direction. Until now, it has not yet been heard that there was any harm to the public due to the bombing.”

It was also reported that since the night of May 13, the residents of the Na Bu Lel area, where the Dawei Special Economic Zone is located, have fled because the military council troops were advancing in the area.

The people’s defence forces in the area are also resisting against the military council forces, which launch attacks using both ground troops and aircraft.

4. In Kanin and Khin-U Townships, more than 16,000 residents are fleeing in the rain as the junta columns are advancing and conducting raids

According to the revolutionary groups, more than 16,000 residents in Kanin and Khin-U Townships are fleeing in the rain as the junta columns are advancing and conducting raids.

“It has been raining heavily for two days since the seasonal storm entered Kani Township. The military council columns are conducting military operations in the villages on the west bank of the Chindwin River below Kani Township. Due to the advancing military columns, more than 13,152 local people from five village tracts are fleeing in the rain to safety,” said a revolutionary activist who is reporting the news in Kani Township.

In a similar way, according to local news sources, the military forces stationed in Inn Pat village market in the western part of Khin-U Township, Sagaing Division, joined forces with Pyu Saw Htee militia from Ywa Thit Kone village to raid Chan Thar Kone village while firing both small and heavy weapons at around 6:00 a.m. on May 14 and looted food and other items from the houses in the village. They then reportedly fired indiscriminately heavy and small weapons into Inn Pat village. A 4-year-old child from Inn Pat village was hit as a result and is receiving medical treatment.

At present, around 3,000 local residents from villages in the western part of Khin-U township, such as Chan Thar Kone village, Kone Thar village, etc., are still fleeing in the rain.

5. A combined force of a military column under the 19th Military Operations Command (Sa-Ka-Kha 19) and Border Guard Force (BGF) transporting rations was ambushed between Yet Paw village and Ta Nyin village, resulting in 8 deaths and 5 captures

On May 14, the Saw Dragon Drone Force (SDDF) released the following operation report:

“On May 9, at about 5:50 p.m., our force, the Saw Dragon Drone Force, in collaboration with ground alliance forces containing the KNLA Battalion 16, ambushed a combined force of roughly 80 men of a military column under the 19th Military Operations Command (Sa-Ka-Kha 19) and Border Guard Force (BGF) transporting rations between Yet Paw village and Ta Nyin village in Kyainseikgyi Township, Kayin State. Our two [drone-dropped] grenades struck and torched an enemy military vehicle, killing the six men onboard.”

According to the SDDF, in the entire operation, two enemy vehicles were destroyed, eight enemies were killed, and five were captured.

6. A military convoy carrying weapons and ammunition was attacked on the Monywa-Mandalay highway using an RPG

It was reported that a military convoy carrying weapons and ammunition was attacked on the Monywa-Mandalay highway using an RPG, and the operation was reportedly carried out by the 11 Brothers Revolution Forces and allied forces.

“On May 10, at about 6:00 a.m., we launched a mine attack against the military council troops from Kyauk Yit village. At about 3:30 in the evening, we launched another attack on a military convoy carrying weapons and ammunition on the Monywa-Mandalay highway using RPG 7 and small arms,” said the 11 Brothers Revolution Forces (11BRF).

The attack on the military convoy was said to have been carried out jointly by the 11 Brothers Revolution Forces (11BRF) Myaung, the Farmer Revolution Force (FRF), the Burmese Guerrilla Force (BGF), and the Myaung T.G.R People’s Defence Group.
