1. The Union Prime Minister expressed his deepest condolences for the bereaved families of Kanan village and no forgiveness for the actions of the military council
The Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann wrote on his Twitter page on January 8.
“My deepest condolences and prayers are with the families devastated in Kanan Village, Sagaing. No Pardons for Junta actions; those behind targeted Civilian Attacks will face severe consequences,” the Union Prime Minister tweeted.
On the morning of January 7, the military council dropped more than ten bombs on Kanan Village near Khampat Town in Tamu District, Sagaing Division. 15 civilians, including children, were killed by the military council’s bombardment.
2. The Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) held a meeting with the township people’s administrative bodies of Tanintharyi, Ayeyarwady and Bago Divisions
On January 7, at 10:00 a.m., the meeting between the NUG’s Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Tanintharyi, Ayeyarwady and Bago Divisions (1/2024) was held.
At the meeting, Union Minister for Labour U Nai Tun Pe @ U Nai Suwunna, a member of ILACC, gave an opening speech.
Following, officials from ministries explained the activities of relevant ministries, and then members of the township people’s administrative bodies exchanged views with relevant officials regarding policies, directions, activities, and challenges encountered on the ground. Then, Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM), who is also a member of the ILACC, gave a closing remark.
The meeting was attended by Union Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Associate Secretaries, officials from ministries, and members of the township people’s administrative bodies of Tanintharyi, Ayeyarwady and Bago Divisions.
3. Graduated PDF comrades of the Special Operations Force from the refresher training course in Southern Regional Command were equipped with weapons
On January 8, the National Unity Government’s Ministry of Defence announced that the graduated PDF comrades of the Special Operations Force from the refresher training course in Southern Regional Command were equipped with weapons.
At the arming ceremony, they saluted the People’s Defence Force flag and recited 4 oaths of allegiance.
Comrade Jupiter, Deputy Commander-2 of Sub-Military Region 3 of Southern Regional Command, attended the arming ceremony, explained the military objectives of the Regional Military Division (Tanintharyi) of the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government, and praised the bravery and courage of the comrades who have been fighting hard to eradicate tyranny during the Spring Revolution for more than 2 years.
After that, the battalion officials expressed their thanks on behalf of the PDF training comrades, and successfully closed the ceremony.
4. The military junta has escalated civilian arrests in Rakhine State and arrested around 100 civilians
The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (Burma) stated that in its “Daily Briefing in Relation to the Military Coup,” updated on January 8.
The AAPP stated, “The junta has escalated civilian arrests in Rakhine State, arresting around 100 civilians in Sittwe Township. They have also issued threats of launching offensives, using heavy weaponry, and setting villages on fire. Consequently, approximately 20,000 locals from villages in Sittwe Township and Ponnagyun Township have evacuated for safety. Additionally, the junta’s blockade of land and naval access has resulted in the deaths of individuals with poor health, including pregnant women.”

It is reported that proceeds from the charity prayer demonstration for Myanmar war refugees in Gumi, South Korea, were donated to the war refugees in Salin.
On January 7, a donation and charity prayer demonstration was held in Gumi, South Korea, in order to support food for the internally displaced people of Myanmar.
It is reported that Asoka Thukha GUMI Group and Daegu Sayadaw jointly donated the proceeds to the war refugee camp in Salin Township, with a population of 400, for food donations worth 6 million kyat and 104 tins of rice.
“As we say, we only have our own; let’s participate in the spring revolution as much as we can for the people of Myanmar, both at home and abroad,” urged Daegu Sayadaw.
6. About 200 enemy forces (entire camp) from Taunshey Taung strategic camp in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, surrendered to the Arakan Army
On January 8, the Arakan Army AA officially released military news.
It is reported that, after the surrender of the entire DaKaSa (Laukkaing) (Laukkaing Regional Operations Command ROC) in the northern Shan State, about 200 enemy forces (the entire camp) from Taunshey Taung strategic camp in Kyauktaw Township, Rakhine State, surrendered to the Arakan Army. Also, other military council camps have also come to communicate with them to surrender or take refuge in the people’s embrace.
Arakan Army AA stated that comrades from some alliance organizations actively fought during the battle to capture the Taunshey Taung strategic camp and learned military experience.
In order to make the entire Paletwa region free of military council, the Arakan Army is attacking the military council’s camps and since January 7, they have already captured every military council camp in the western part of Paletwa, Arakan Army AA stated. It is said that the remaining military council camps will be completely demolished within the next few days.
Next, Thin Kyit Taw Taung Camp, Mrauk-U, Rakhine State, was completely captured by the Arakan Army at 4:00 p.m. on January 7, 2024, and a large amount of enemy military equipment and ammunition were seized.
7. Armored vehicles, 0.5 weapons, Howitzer launchers and a large amount of ammunition were seized during the capture battle of SaKaKha-16 in Hsenwi in northern Shan State
On January 8, People’s Liberation Army PLA announced that they had seized armored vehicles, 0.5 weapons, Howitzer launchers, and a large amount of ammunition during the capture battle of SaKaKha-16 (Military Operations Commands (MOC) -16) in Hsenwi in northern Shan State.
On January 1, in order to launch an offensive attack on the SaKaKha-16 area, they started attacking from the top of the bridge over the Namtu Creek exiting Hsenwi and continued to attack the junta troops stationed in Kawnghaw Village. On January 3, Kawnghaw Village was successfully captured. On the same day, they started attacking the IB-69, and on January 4, they captured the IB-69 successfully along the weapons warehouses. Also, the SaKaKha-16 headquarters was raided, and the rest of the battalions, artillery hill camps, airfields, weapon warehouses, armored vehicles, 0.5 weapons, howitzers, and a large amount of ammunition in the entire SaKaKha-16 area were captured, it stated.
On January 6, in attacking the GE battalion, all the junta troops fled, and on January 7, at 9:00 a.m., it was reported that the entire SaKaKha-16 area was successfully captured.
8. The junta’s Hkranhti Dam camp in Khaunglanhpu Township, Putao District, was successfully captured
The Putao PDF confirmed on January 8 that they had captured the junta’s Hkranhti Dam camp in Khaunglanhpu Township, Putao District, Kachin State.
On January 2, the fierce battle broke out from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although the junta supported with 4 air strikes, they were able to attack without any casualties.
After the 3-day attack, they were able to capture the Hkranhti Dam camp, and defence forces are reportedly safe.
9. Three 1kg bombs were dropped on the place where the terrorist junta troops were stationed in Myaing Town
On January 8, the Urban Underground Revolution Force-YSO stated that three 1kg bombs were dropped on the place where the terrorist junta troops were stationed in Myaing Town.
It stated that on January 6, terrorist junta troops stationed inside the Planning Office in Myaing were attacked with three 1kg bombs. 2 bombs hit the target inside the Planning Office and caused damage. The details are still under investigation.
The attack was cooperatively conducted by Urban Underground Revolution Force-YSO, Myingyin District Battalion 1 – 27 Revolution Forces, Yinmarbin District Battalions 3,4,5,6, Sin Yine Yarzar Myaing, and the Pakokku Local Alliance Forces.
10. The defense forces attacked the junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee who were transporting food to ShinMaTaung Mountain in Yesagyo Township
On January 8, the military news war was confirmed by the Yesagyo PaKaFa.
On January 7, at 3:30 a.m., there were 3 encounters of defence forces with junta troops from the IB-258 under Division 101, and Pyu Saw Htee from Sin Chuang (Pyu) Village who were transporting food to ShinMaTaung Mountain in Yesagyo Township. That 70-strong junta column was repeatedly chased by the People’s Defense Forces with drones and from the ground. There were casualties among the junta troops, and 2 junta soldiers were witnessed to have fallen down during the attack.
It is reported that that junta column abducted civilian cars and went back to IB-258 through the Taung O Tar Taing checkpoint.
The attack was jointly carried out by the People’s Defence Force Yesagyo (Yesagyo PaKaFa) and Pakokku District Battalion 9.
11. Drone bombardment of Pyu Saw Htee trying to collect food
The Khin U Special Force Organization – KSO announced that they conducted a drone mission attacking Pyu Saw Htee from Pyinhtaung Village, who were trying to collect food in Khin U Township, Sagaing Division.
On the afternoon of January 7, about 20 Pyu Saw Htee under the military council from Pyinhtaung Village were attacked because they were trying to arbitrarily harvest the rice fields planted by the local people for food. It is reported that the harvested rice pile and the rice field were destroyed because they dropped a firebomb with a drone while the Pyu Saw Htee were harvesting the rice field.
In addition, Khin U-based alliance forces also said that they attacked Pyu Saw Htee who ran into Pyinhtaung Village with 5 large drone bombs, resulting in casualties.
The attack was carried out by Khin U Special Force Organization – KSO, KURDAF Drone Force, Khin U Township People’s Defense Force, Wolf Guerrilla Local PDF- YE.U (KURDAF Drone) and ARF (KURDAF Drone).
Pyu Saw Htee members, who were captured on December 28, also told the alliance forces that Pyinhtaung Village is currently facing a shortage of food.
It is reported that Pyu Saw Htee from Pyinhtaung Village have been trying to steal and harvest the public rice fields near the village 4 times, and the alliance of People’s Defense Forces was able to prevent them all 4 times.
12. 4 women were killed by shrapnel in an airstrike by the military council without a fight in Mong Yaw Village, Lashio Township
TNLA confirmed that on January 7, at 9:35 p.m., the Military Council bombarded a destructive 500-pound bomb with jet fighters targeting civilians at Mong Yaw Village.
As a result of a bomb fired by the military council, a civilian house exploded in Mong Yaw Village, killing 4 women by shrapnel and destroying 20 houses.
13. Due to repeated mine attacks on the junta logistic convoy coming from Myaing to Kanni (Pyu) Village, the locals are being captured and used as hostages
The Myaing U.A.V Fighter stated that the junta logistic convoy coming from Myaing to Kanni (Pyu) Village, Magway Division, was repeatedly mined and retreated, so they arrested the local residents and used them as hostages.
It was reported that the junta logistic convoy coming from Myaing to Kanni (Pyu) Village was attacked with 4 large mines near the Pauk Pyin intersection at the exit of Myaing at 7:30 a.m. on January 4. Then, they were also attacked with 5 front mines and 20 Enaga-dropped bombs near Thanpayar Chan Village, severely injuring 3 junta soldiers.
On January 5, when that convoy left Myaing to go to Kanni (Pyu) Village, they were hit again with 4 large mines at the Pauk Pyin intersection at 6:00 a.m., and at about 11:00 a.m., they were hit again with 5 mines when they reached Gway Sea Creek. So they had to retreat back to Myaing, according to the revolutionary forces.
Myaing PaKaFa stated that when that column was coming back into the town, it was hit again by 3 front mines and they drove into the township hospital.
It is reported that the military council convoy, which was unable to move forward due to being repeatedly attacked by mines, did not dare advance forward and were trying to leave Myaing by arresting and using local residents as hostages.
The attacks were carried out by Myaing PaKaFa Drone Team, Myaing UAV Fighter, Bo Mway Soe Force, Circuit 4 MPL Force, Myaing PaKaFa Battalion 2 Company 3 and 4, and Earthquake People’s Defence Force-PKU.
