Myanmar’s Spring Revolution News – August 22

1. The Acting President said that only the will of the people is the will of the government as the National Unity Government is a government formed for the needs of the people

On August 21, the Acting President of the National Unity Government, Duwa Lashi La, said in a message to the people, “The National Unity Government was formed for the needs of the people, so only the will of the people is the will of the government.”

“The National Unity Government is a government that was formed for the needs of the people, so only the will of the people is our will. We would like to reiterate and emphasize that we will always uphold the people’s faith,” the Acting President said.

Currently, the National Unity Government is speeding up the education and health sectors as an interim public service, as well as providing assistance to people who have fled the war.

2. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration held a meeting with the township people’s administrative bodies of Bago, Ayeyarwady, Yangon, and Tanintharyi Divisions

On August 21, the meeting between the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration (MOHAI) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Bago, Ayeyarwady, Yangon, and Tanintharyi Divisions (16/2023) was held.

At the meeting, Associate Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration gave an opening speech.

Following, members of the township people’s administrative bodies exchanged views with relevant officials regarding the policies, direction, ground administrative activities, difficulties, and challenges encountered on the ground. 

The meeting was attended by Associate Permanent Secretary, officials from the Public Administration Department, Police Department, Fire Department, Immigration Department, and Department of Special Investigation, and members of the township people’s administrative bodies of Bago, Ayeyarwady, Yangon, and Tanintharyi Divisions.

3. The Military Council only has the control over Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw and Ayeyarwady

In the township law officers meeting and discussion No. (10/2023) ceremony held on August 19, the Minister of Justice said this. 

“During the two-and-a-half years of the Spring Revolution, which started with three fingers, the military council only had control over Yangon, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, and Ayeyarwady and was no longer in a position to completely control others. The revolution has reached a turning point. The Ministry of Justice is a current of the revolution and is going through a three-pillared system with Law Offices, Courts, and Prisons. The Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, and the Ministry of Justice are cooperating in a doubled three-pillared system,” the Union Minister said.

Union Minister of Justice U Thein Oo, Permanent Secretary Daw May Aung Thu, Director Generals of relevant departments, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, Advisors, Directors, Office Team Leaders, Officials of the Prosecution Department, Communications Officers and 22 Law Officers from 18 townships attended the ceremony.

4. Deputy Minister of Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration attended the meeting between the Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Sagaing Division

On August 21, the meeting between the NUG’s Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Sagaing Division (33/2023) was held.

At the meeting, Deputy Minister U Khu Hte Bu, Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, a secretary member-1 of the ILACC, gave an opening speech.

Following, members of the township people’s administrative bodies exchanged views with relevant officials regarding policies, directions, activities, and challenges encountered on the ground.

Led by Deputy Minister U Khu Hte Bu, Permanent Secretaries, Associate Secretaries, officials from ministries, and members of the township people’s administrative bodies of Sagaing Division attended the meeting.

On August 21, Spring Development Bank announced that it will provide 4 types of periods for fixed deposits service at Spring Development Bank, with interest rate programs up to 11% annually, which can be chosen according to your preferences.

“Spring Development Bank will provide 4 types of periods for fixed deposits service: 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1 year. You can choose Myanmar kyat, US dollar, Singapore dollar, and Thai baht and deposit according to your preferences with the highest annual interest rates of up to 11%,” it stated.

In addition, as a special feature, digital gold (Gold token) can also be saved as a fixed deposit.

To use the fixed deposits service, one can deposit starting from a minimum amount equal to $100 according to the relevant currency.

As soon as the fixed deposits period is over, Spring Development Bank will automatically add the amount including the interest percentage to the bank account.

However, if you want to withdraw your deposits before the end of the deposit period, you will have to wait 48 hours to withdraw the funds into your current account without interest.

6. Grant given to police CDM heroes in the liberated area of Kyainseikgyi, Karen State

Kyainseikgyi Township PaAFa announced on August 21 that they had delivered a grant to police CDM heroes in the liberated area of Kyainseikgyi, Karen State.

It was reported that the grant award ceremony to police CDMers was held on August 21 at 12:00 noon at the Mee Eain Shin clinic in the liberated area of Kyainseikgyi, Karen State.

The grants were provided by the People’s Embrace Committee, and the People’s Administration Organization (PaAFa) of Kyainseikgyi Township gave 12,35,000 kyats to 13 police CDMers at 95,000 kyats each.

7. ACDF informs that they are providing medical treatment to the local community on the south of Magway and that there is a need for medicinal supplies

The ACDF (Asho Chin Defence Force) informed that they are providing medical treatment to the local community on the south side of Magway and that there is a need for medicinal supplies.

The ACDF (Asho Chin Defence Force) said that they are providing free medical treatment and health education to the public during August.

“The Asho Chin Defence Force (ACDF) and the People Independence Army (PIA) have been providing free medical treatment and health education activities to the local community in the southern Magway, who are facing many difficulties and hardships. During the revolution, we are working hard to protect the public by fulfilling public service activities as much as possible. It is very difficult for the local residents of the village, who are suffering from the Mocha Cyclone natural disaster, to get medicine and medical treatment,” it stated.

It was also reported that due to the oppression of the fascist military, the residents of the village are having a hard time recovering the damage, medicine, and food.

8. For 6 days in a row, the terrorist junta troops burned down public houses in Thar Si Village, Kalay Township

On August 21, the revolutionary forces confirmed that the terrorist junta troops had burned down the entire Thar Si Village in Kalay Township for 6 days in a row.

It was reported that, “Thar Si Village, which is close to Kalay Town, and was attacked by air on August 15, has been occupied by terrorist junta troops for a long time, and from August 16 to August 21, they have been burning and destroying public houses continuously for 6 days.”

The latest news was that the terrorist junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee members have been burning Thar Si Village for 6 days in a row with a large force, and they were also shelling the nearby villages with heavy weapons and small arms excessively.

We have also warned and urged the surrounding villages, including Thar Si Village of Kalay Township, to continue to evacuate from the danger of heavy weapons.

9. From January 2023 to August 21, 2023, a total of (217) people were killed due to gunfire by terrorist groups nationwide, and Sagaing had the highest number of deaths with (90) people

On August 21, the AAPP (Assistance Association for Political Prisoners) reported the data collected.

“Between January and August 21, 2023, (35) women and (182) men; (217) people in total were killed due to junta shootings across the country, with Sagaing Region consisting of the highest number of fatalities, with (90) victims,” AAPP reported.

Since the February 1, 2021 coup and the emergence of the Spring Revolution, a total of (3,965) people, including pro-democracy activists and civilians have been killed through military crackdowns against the pro-democracy movement.
