1. Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said that the military council has already failed on the financial front
Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said at the “People to People” programme that the military council has already failed on the financial front.
“On the side of the military council, their finance sector has been hit hard. They have been subjected to sanctions. Their banks were affected. The move taken by UOB in Singapore is an example. These affected the military council a lot. It was their misstep that they issued a new 20,000-kyat bank note. On the NUG side, the Spring Development Bank emerged. NUG Pay emerged. Moreover, there is also the financial warfare [campaign] where the public is involved. These are remarkable achievements [of the NUG] on the financial front,” Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said.
In August, due to U.S. sanctions against them, Bangladesh state-owned Sonali Bank frozen the accounts of the two Myanmar banks, the Myanma Foreign Trade Bank (MFTB) and Myanma Investment and Commercial Bank (MICB), which together had U.S. $1.1 million deposited at the bank.
2. Deputy Minister David Gum Awng says that each and every individual taking part in the Spring Revolution already has a clear distinction between friends and enemies
At the Live Talk Show “To The Unsung Heroes” programme held on August 18, David Gum Awng, Deputy Minister for the National Unity Government’s Ministry of International Cooperation, remarked:
“In the Spring Revolution, efforts are being made to speed up things like finance, international recognition, and military momentum. We all, including revolutionary comrades who are scarifying themselves in the revolution and each and every official of the National Unity Government, are also faithfully serving their duties. Each of us is loyal to this revolution. Besides, we have a clear distinction between friends and enemies.”
Currently, the military momentum of the revolution is ramping up, and 2023 has been announced as the decisive year for the final battle.
3. The Wayazein weapon production and repair team is equipping the Aung Zeya People’s Defence Organisation with improvised firearms
The Wayazein weapon manufacture and repair team declared on August 19 that it has been providing improvised firearms to the Aung Zeya People’s Defence Organisation.
“In order to speed up the village defence and public security activities in Shwebo Township, Shwebo District, the Wayazein weapon production and repair team is equipping the Aung Zeya People’s Defence Organisation with firearms it produces,” the Wayazein weapon production and repair team stated.
The Wayazein team mainly works on the production of firearms and supplies them to village defence organisations.
4. PDF-allied forces simultaneously ambushed two junta checkpoints on Pathien-Monywa Highway Road in Magway’s Mindon Township for over an hour
According to a press release by the Military Headquarters of the People’s Defence Force (PDF), on August 15, 2023, at about 4:00 p.m., PDF-allied forces simultaneously ambushed the two junta security checkpoints—Mindon Bridge (Kan Lel Bridge) security checkpoint and the 5-mile security checkpoint—where more than 25 junta soldiers were deployed on Pathein-Monywa Highway Road near Boodaung village in Mindon Township, Magway Division. The two sides exchanged fire for more than an hour. During the attack, seven junta soldiers were killed, and one was injured, while comrades of the PDF-allied forces successfully withdrew unharmed.
The operation was carried out by the Thayet District PDF Battalion No. 4, the Student Armed Force (SAF), and the Warriors of Liberation Force (WOLF) under the command of Military Region No. 1 of the PDF army.
5. Justice For Myanmar (JFM) is pursuing a campaign to prevent Singapore from exporting arms and dual-use items to the Myanmar military
Justice For Myanmar (JFM) is pursuing a campaign to prevent Singapore from exporting arms and dual-use items to the Myanmar military and it stated:
“What Singapore is selling to Myanmar are actually weapons [that enable the Myanmar military to commit acts of terrorism against the public]. Since 2021, Singapore companies have sold hundreds of millions of dollars-worth of copper balls, radios, generators, and other goods that support the military junta in its brutal campaign against the people of Myanmar. If the Singaporean government successfully stopped all trade to the Myanmar military from its jurisdiction, it would ‘significantly disrupt’ the junta’s ability to commit war crimes, according to a recent report by the UN Special Rapporteur on Myanmar. The Singaporean government must do more to stop shipments of arms and dual-use supplies to the Myanmar military.”
The Singapore government has denied selling military weaponry to Myanmar’s military.
