1. NUCC and NUG reject political moves deviating from goals and values of transitioning to a new system
On August 6, the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the National Unity Government (NUG) issued a joint statement, declaring a set of political goals and positions in order to end all dictatorship and build a federal democratic union based on the Union Vision, Union Values, Guiding Principles, Foundational Policies, and Road Map outlined in Part I of the Federal Democratic Charter.
The statement affirmed that the ultimate goal of Myanmar’s Spring Revolution is to build a new federal democratic union that is complete and rigorous in not only form but also substance (system change) and that implements federal democratic practises. The goal is not mere regime change—a change in form without a change in substance—which will only allow dictatorship to persist.
It was said in the statement that a federal union army composed of diverse ethnic nationalities that solely bears the responsibility of defence against external threats and unconditionally follows the administration of the civilian people’s government will be established in the future federal democratic union.
In relation to human rights violations, war crimes, crimes against humanity, genocide, and other crimes, the NUCC and NUG promised that transitional justice mechanisms would be put in place to ensure that the truth is upheld, that responsibility and accountability are held, that justice is served, and that additional violations are avoided.
The statement further stated that by embracing the goals outlined, any political moves that deviate from achieving the vision and values that were determined for the new era and new system will be rejected.
2. Union Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung expresses gratitude to the Timor President and Prime Minister as true friends of the Myanmar people in the region
Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung expressed her gratitude towards President José Ramos-Horta and Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão via Facebook on August 6: “Mr. President and Prime Minister, I would like to express and convey my heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Myanmar People during our difficult times. For your bravery and courage to stand with us.”
Last month, NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung and NUG’s Representative to the Czech Republic U Linn Thant attended the swearing-in ceremony of the new government of Timor-Leste on the invitation of President Ramos-Horta.
Prime Minister Gus Prime Minister Gusmão said on August 3, after meeting President Ramos-Horta, that, as long as he is Prime Minister, Timor-Leste will not be joining ASEAN if the association is unable to convince the military junta in Myanmar.
3. NUG’s Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe supports the sermon by Kyaukmae Sayadaw
On August 6, Union Minister Dr. Zaw Wai Soe expressed his support for the sermon of Kyaukme Sayadaw via Facebook: “Not to do evil, to cultivate good, and to cleanse one’s mind. Sadhu.”
At the consecration ceremony of terrorist junta chief Min Aung Hlaing’s huge Buddha statue held on August 1, Kyaukme Sayadaw delivered the sermon, which is the teaching of all the Buddhas. The sermon has received support from the vast majority of Myanmar people, both at home and abroad.
4. NUG’s Deputy Minister U Maw Htun Aung says that political action won’t succeed unless it prioritises the common interest
U Maw Htun Aung, Deputy Minister of the NUG’s Ministry of Electricity and Energy, posted some political opinions on Facebook.
“Politics is the creation of good systems that allow all of a nation’s common species to live happily with the resources they have access to while enjoying short and rare human lives. It is difficult to avoid having personal feelings towards the outcome, but if you move towards it and prioritise the common interest, you will succeed in achieving it,” Deputy Minister U Maw Htun Aung said.
Until now, the terrorist military that has seized control of the country by force since February 1, 2021, has not yet been able to rule the populace.
5. Chin National Council (Mindat) formed officially
On August 6th, the Chin National Council (Mindat) made a formal announcement about its foundation.
According to the announcement, the Chin National Council (Mindat) was formally formed after the fight to overthrow the terrorist dictatorship had, to a certain extent, been successful and in light of the urgent need for a political leadership organisation that will develop and implement policies that will ensure the people of Chin with fundamental guarantees, such as federal democracy, rights to determine their own future, and equality.
The Chin National Council (Mindat) proclaimed that it will exercise the highest power in the region in order to develop and carry out the policies and procedures included in the goals of its formation, alongside Chin revolutionary forces both inside and outside the country.
6. Nearly 400 people participated in the rally and 26-mile walk in London to mark the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising
A rally, along with a 26-mile walk, was held in London on August 5th, with nearly 400 Myanmar people who are residing in the UK, to mark the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising.
NUG’s Representative to the UK U Maung Maung Aung, and Dr. Thet Ko Ko were also present at the event and representatives from 88-generation students, the young generation and Myanmar ethnic organisations spoke at the rally.
Moreover, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s younger son, Kim Aris, also known as Ko Htein Lin, presented certificates of achievement to those who took part in the 26-mile walk and offered a speech to everyone present.
7. About 300 people of Myanmar multi-ethnicity attended the rally in New York to mark the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising
According to a Myanmar community organisation based in the United States, the New York City Burmese Community (NYCBC), on August 5th, a rally was held at Time Square in New York City from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. local time to mark the 35th anniversary of the 8888 Uprising.
The rally was opened with three salutations, and revolutionary memories about the 8888 Uprising were delivered. Then, a revolutionary poetry demonstration was recited by vocalist Kyaw Thiha and performed by members of NYCBC. Before the rally dispersed, slogans were chanted and revolutionary songs were sung.
Nearly 300 multi-ethnic Myanmar people from New York participated in the rally.
