“Everyone knows that, this time, the military leaders, who are jealous and hate Aung San Suu Kyi, have detained her as an inmate in a prison, not even under house detention. The terrorist military led by Min Aung Hlaing has committed treason by illegally arresting and detaining State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi in prison and has continued to commit many war crimes since then.”

So far, the terrorist military has killed at least 3,000 people and arrested at least 20,000 others.

This is a phrase from a well-known Burmese poem, and the name Beda means water hyacinth, a flower symbolic of resilience and resistance. The poem narrates the ebbs and flows of Miss Beda (or a water hyacinth) as she drifts along a river and relates experiences of exhilaration and triumph while negotiating fatigue and physical obstacles in her passage up and down the river.

Dr. Sasa, the Union Minister for International Cooperation, wrote a poem in honour of the State Counsellor’s birthday.

Dr. Zaw Wai Soe, Union Minister of Education and Health, also wished the State Counsellor good health on her 78^th birthday and demanded the release of her and other political prisoners who were unjustly arrested as soon as possible.

Dr. Shwe Pon, Deputy Minister of Health, also wished, “We promise that we will do our best for you to be able to meet people again in good health as soon as possible.”

On February 1, 2021, since the terrorist military attempted to seize state power, the military regime has been unjustly arresting State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

4. On the occasion of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s birthday, the National League for Democracy (NLD) pledges to collaborate effectively with allies and partner nations for the immediate release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

On June 19, the 78^th birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the National League for Democracy (NLD) Work Committee issued a statement, pledging to collaborate effectively with allies and partner nations for the immediate release of all political prisoners, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

Firstly, the statement thanks the individuals who attended the celebration of NLD Chairperson Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 78^th birthday and who gave words of honour, those individuals and organisations that sent letters, and those at home and abroad who celebrated her birthday and sent prayers for her release.

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has been under home arrest for more than 15 years since she made efforts for Myanmar’s democracy in 1988, and it has been more than 2 years since she was arrested and imprisoned again as soon as the military seized power on February 1, 2021, according to the statement.

“Even today, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi is considered as people’s leader with love, admiration, trust and confidence of the entire population and is the leader of winning political party, our National League for Democracy considers that she is in fact a very very important person who cannot be excluded from resolving political issues of Myanmar,” the statement said.

The NLD noted that “there will be no way out to resolution in addressing Myanmar’s political problems arising from the military coup without dialogue with Daw Aung San Suu Kyi” and pledged to “work effectively in collaboration with allied countries and allied forces both inside and outside the country for the immediate release of all political prisoners without exemption, including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.”

At the ceremony, a prayer was offered for the entire people of Myanmar, including political prisoners, those who are fleeing in the forests, and those who take part in the revolution in various forms.

Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun and about 350 Myanmar diaspora members attended the celebration, and representatives from the four major religions also offered prayers.

Similarly, Myanmar nationals in Fort Wayne, Indiana, United States, also held Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 78^th birthday celebration on June 19. The birthday celebration was held along with a prayer for the release of her and all other political prisoners and a charity feast for all comers.

“The Ambassador of France in Myanmar, H.E Mr Christian Lechervy, wishes to pay tribute to the State Counsellor, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, for her 78^th birthday. He reiterates France’s calls for an immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners since the 1st of February, 2021,” the statement said.

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is 78 this year, has been sentenced to a long term in prison and detained arbitrarily by the terrorist military council.

7. A strike force hung a banner featuring a portrait of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi alongside the text “We Miss You” in Yangon to commemorate the 78^th birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi

8. The Zero Guerrilla Force (Myingyan) holds a flower strike with 900 roses to commemorate the 78^th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and to symbolise the virtue of women

On June 19, the Zero Guerrilla Force (Myingyan), Myingyan District 7^th PDF Battalion, posted a video clip to mark the 78^th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.

“The Zero Guerrilla Force (Myingyan), Myingyan District 7^th PDF Battalion, on the occasion of the 78^th birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, who is loved and respected by the people, held a flower strike with 900 roses to show our respect for her, those political prisoners who are unjustly arrested, and women who had fulfilled their responsibilities in various aspects of the history of the revolution,” said the leader of the Zero Guerrilla Force.

The Zero Guerrilla Force (Myingyan) is a battalion of the People’s Defence Force under the Ministry of Defence of the National Unity Government and is an armed resistance force that is fighting to end the military dictatorship.

9. The NUG Southern Military Command holds a ceremony to commemorate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 78^th birthday, reciting revolutionary songs and poems

A ceremony to commemorate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 78^th birthday was organised on the morning of June 19 at the headquarters office of the NUG Southern Military Command.

The ceremony followed the seven agenda items, which included saluting the People’s Defence (PDF) flag, reciting the four PDF mottos, a speech by Comrade Saw Shar, who oversees the Southern Military Command’s operations, to commemorate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s 78^th birthday, cutting a birthday cake, singing “Don’t Give Up, Mi Nge” by the PDF soldiers, and reciting poems.
