1. Whoever stating or expressing upon false allegation, AA stated that they are fully fulfilling their position and obligations as usual
On May 24, Arakan Army (AA) issued a statement saying that regardless of whatever and whoever asserting about the situation in northern Rakhine State, they are fully engaged in public service according to their positions and responsibilities.
AA stated that Rakhine State is currently in a complicated situation with military, political, religious, and violence. Various people see the current situation from various perspectives, and they are asserting their own after neglecting the truths for their interests. International organizations and news media should also verify the facts about the truth on the ground first instead of writing one-sided accusations based on fake news and misinformation. Only cooperation with ULA/AA, which is protecting the people on the ground, will be more beneficial for all, and it will be able to help those who are trying to achieve harmony, peaceful coexistence, and justice among the people living in the region.
Currently, there are more than 500,000 displaced persons in AA-controlled areas, and there are about 200,000 displaced persons in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships alone, 80% of whom are Muslims, while only 20% are from Rakhine and other minorities.
AA stated that they have been providing the best assistance and protection regardless of race and religion to displaced people in areas under the control of the AA ensuring the safety and security of the local people amidst the war in Rakhine State. They have been adequately provided with basic needs including rice, oil, salt, and medicine, but in the coming period, in addition to basic food, children’s and women’s monthly items, shelter, and toilets may be urgently needed for the coming rainy season, AA said.
Therefore, the AA has urged international organizations, voluntary charity groups, NGOs, and donors to help with the needs.
