1. The Union Prime Minister said that in the new year, they will build stronger unity and strive for the final battle

Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann said that starting in the new year, they will build stronger unity and fight for the final battle.

Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann said this in his New Year speech on his social media page on January 2.

“The year 2023, in which we marched with unwavering determination and indomitable spirit, has decided the victor and the vanquished in the Spring Revolution.

Throughout the ages, generation after generation has made sacrifices and battled not merely for power, but for the betterment of our nation through a reimagined system, heralding a new era for the generations to come. As leaders, it is our responsibility to persist in our efforts with unwavering resolve and fearless conviction,” said the Union Prime Minister.

The National Unity Government is proceeding according to the Federal Charter, and is speeding up efforts to reach a common agreement between the revolutionary forces as soon as possible.

2. The MNDAA Commander-in-Chief said that regaining autonomous power is the biggest goal

The Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) Commander-in-Chief U Peng Deren said that regaining autonomous power is the biggest goal. He said this at the New Year’s message sent to all the people and ethnic groups living in Myanmar, including the people in Kokang Special Region-1, ethnic resistance organizations, the National Unity Government and the People’s Defense Forces.

It is said that 2023 marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Myanmar National Truth and Justice Party – MNTJP.

“Looking back at the establishment of the MNDAA, we were able to implement the development of the force to a large extent after the establishment of the MNTJP,” said U Peng Deren, who is also the Secretary General of the MNTJP.

He continued that they were able to re-open the Special Region-1 Officer Training School at the beginning of 2023, produce a cadre of young, active and fully skilled officers, and improve the quality of educated young people from various regions.

He also said that in March, the military rank badge system was implemented and the unit was built into a systematic unit.

It is said that MNDAA gained the trust and praise of the public because it was able to take the lessons of history learned during the past 14 years and lead the political and military fronts to build a strong structure prioritizing the public.

U Peng Deren said that the re-establishment of autonomous power for the Kokang ethnic group is the biggest goal in the past 14 years. 

The message stated that although they faced all kinds of difficulties to achieve this goal, they systematically conducted Operation 1027 together with ethnic brotherhood alliance organizations to wipe out cybercrimes and Kokang puppet groups by standing against oppression and discrimination.

3. The coup leader accused the country of suffering because of the opposition organizations

The military coup leader blamed the damage and loss of state-owned and people’s property due to the actions of opposition organizations during the last 2023 period, which was a negative sign for the country.

The military leader of the coup, General Min Aung Hlaing, said this in his New Year’s greeting speech delivered on January 1, 2024.

The military leader accused the opposition organizations that are fighting against them, saying that those who do not want to develop their country in a democratic way and peacefully have disturbed the people in various ways.

He said that the damage and loss of property belonging to the state and the citizens due to destructive activities was a negative sign for the country, and if these things had not happened, our country would have progressed a lot.

General Min Aung Hlaing said this while turning a blind eye to the criticism of the military council by the world’s countries because millions of people in Myanmar were killed and destroyed due to the military coup.

One of the pro-democracy activists, Ko Min Thway Thit, responded to a question from  the Thanlwin Times, saying, “From the 2021 coup d’état to the present, the culprit of all the cases, including the casualties and damage, is the military, and the military leader is behaving like the proverb ‘A Thief Pointing Civilians As Thieves’.”

However, the New Year’s speech did not include the country’s battles, including the 1027 operation, which greatly damaged the military council.

The National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the National Unity Government (NUG) jointly announced on January 1 that they will do their best to make 2024 a year of final victory for all the people of Burma.

4. 6 local residents were killed and 4 were injured due to the heavy artillery firing by the military on Kawlin Town

Kawlin Township People’s Administrative Body (PaAaFa) announced that 6 local residents were killed and at least 4 were injured when the military council troops based in Wuntho attacked Kawlin Town in Sagaing Division with howitzers.

The military council’s battalions LIB-120 and LIB-111, based in Wuntho, fired 6 artillery shells with howitzers on Kawlin Town on the morning of January 2, and the shelling fell in the market area, resulting in casualties for the local residents. The deceased were said to be one male and five females between the ages of 18 and 55.

According to the Kawlin Township People to People Assistance Group, the deceased were properly buried by the social welfare groups, and the injured were treated by the medical teams. It is also reported that 4 civilian houses were damaged due to heavy artillery firing by the terrorist military.

5. The Police Battalion 28, police station, general administration office and forestry office where the military council troops were stationed in Yinmarbin Township were attacked with heavy weapons

It is reported that the People’s Defense Forces opened fire on the Police Battalion 28, police station, general administration office, forestry office and the camps in Shwe Taung Oo Hill, where the military council troops were stationed in Yinmarbin Township, Sagaing Division, with heavy weapons. 

On December 31, at around 5:30 p.m., the No. 28 Police Battalion on the Monywa – Pathein road and the terrorist military council camp in Shwe Taung Oo Hill in Yinmarbin Township were attacked with heavy weapons, said the Brother Defense Force, Yinmarbin District Battalion 16, Company 1. The Police Battalion and the military council camp were attacked by the Brother Defense Force, Yinmarbin District Battalion 16, Company 1 and Mae Hmaung Guerrilla Force, and attacked with more than 30 shots of 60-mm heavy artillery. During the battle, the military council troops fired back with 60 mm, 80 mm, and machine guns, and the people’s defense comrades were able to retreat unharmed. The casualties on the side of the military council are still under investigation.

Similarly, Chindwin Toe Na Yar PDF stated that the police station, the general administration office and the forest office, where the military council troops were stationed, were attacked with heavy artillery. On December 31, from 8:45 to 10:45 p.m., the joint revolutionary forces attacked the police station, general administration office, and forest office stationed by the military council troops in Yinmarbin Township with 60 mm, 80 mm, and 90 mm heavy weapons. The attack was jointly carried out by Chindwin Toe Na Yar PDF, Thanmani Ma Pway, Zero, Bo Thurein and Tarzan Alliance.

6. The military council troops stationed at Tanintharyi City’s Bogyoke bronze statue were attacked and 2 were seriously injured

According to a statement from the local people’s defense forces, two soldiers of the military council were seriously injured in the attack of the military council troops stationed at the Bogyoke bronze statue, Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Division.

On January 1, around 1:00 p.m., the local people’s defense forces attacked the military intelligence and military council soldiers who were stationed at the Bogyoke bronze statue. As a result of this attack, 2 soldiers of the military council at the Bogyoke bronze statue gate were seriously injured, and the people’s defense comrades were able to withdraw without being harmed.

The attack was jointly carried out by the Red Wing People Defence Force and the Tanintharyi -PaKaFa.

Tanintharyi -PaKaFa stated that the military council gate that was attacked was arresting civilians and asking for money. 

In the last week of December, the military council troops invading the villages of Tanintharyi Township were attacked and 19 soldiers of the military council were killed, according to the local resistance forces.

7. The military convoy was mined on the Monywa-Chaung U road section, damaging 3 vehicles

The People’s Defence Force – South Monywa, Monywa District Battalion 11, announced that 3 military vehicles were damaged in a mine attack on the military convoy on the Monywa-Chaung U road section in Monywa Township, Sagaing Division.

It is reported that the military convoy of 3 vehicles, including a Jammer armored car that came out of the Monywa towards Chaung-U, were attacked with 2 large mines at about 7:40 a.m. on January 1. There may be casualties as all 3 military vehicles were damaged due to the mine attack, but the investigation is still ongoing. The military council troops fired back with small arms, but comrades from Monywa District PDF Battalion 11 was unharmed.

It was said that the defence force sincerely apologized to the passengers on the bus, as the bus near the convoy was hit accidentally during the attack of the military convoy with mines. 

Therefore, People’s Defense Force – South Monywa, Monywa District Battalion 11, has appealed to the public to drive at a distance when military vehicles are passing by, and to drive after lowering the window.

8. The military council’s village administrator, a leader of Pyu Saw Htee, was shot and killed in Minhla

An official from the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802 said that they shot and killed a military council’s village administrator in the Gang Gaw Pin Village Tract, Min Hla Township, Bago Division.

Maung Nyan, who was also the military council’s village administrator and a Pyu Saw Htee leader under the military, was shot and killed with 5 shots by the people’s defense force comrades at around 9:00 a.m. on December 31 between Gang Gaw Pin Village and Botahtaung Village.

It is reported that the shooting was cooperatively carried out by the comrades of the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802, Company 2 and 3. The administrator Maung Nyan, who was seriously injured due to the shooting, was taken to Yangon General Hospital by Pyu Saw Htee members, and he died at 9:00 p.m. on December 31.

The Battalion 3802 also informed that the action was taken because the administration and Pyu leader Maung Nyan organized youths to join the police and the military, formed the Pyu Saw Htee group and gathered forces, sent intelligence information from the revolutionary forces, and oppressed people by relying on guns issued by the military council.
