1. Acting President said that he honored the 78th Independence Day of Indonesia and stand with Indonesian friends

On August 18, Acting President Duwa Lashi La wrote on Twitter that he honored Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day and stand with Indonesian friends.

Acting President tweeted, “Honoring the Indonesia’s 78th Independence Day, Myanmar stands with our Indonesian friends in celebrating freedom and unity. As we progress toward federal democracy, let’s uphold justice and sovereignty, inspiring each other. Solidarity knows no bounds!”

Indonesia has worked to provide assistance on the Myanmar issue within the ASEAN framework.

2. The military council’s border trade blockade has become worse

Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng said on August 18 that the military council’s border trade blockade has become worse.

“The military junta’s lobbies are saying that Myanmar’s economy is going down because the NUG is urging the international community to impose economic sanctions on Myanmar. The truth is that there is no need for an international body to do so. Their (military junta) gate closures have more impacts than international sanctions. What’s worse is that almost all the border towns controlled by the military council are running out of food. Even a city like Danai has been blocked for no military reason. People have to pay more than 100,000 kyats for a bag of rice,” the Union Minister said.

Currently, the border trade routes, such as Muse-Mandalay Road, Mandalay-Bhamo-Lwegel Road, and Myitkyina-Danai Road, have been blocked by the terrorist military council.

3. Deputy Minister U Maw Tun Aung said that it is important to participate in the spring revolution in any way possible

Deputy Minister U Maw Tun Aung said on August 18 that it is important to participate in the Spring Revolution in any way possible.

“According to Apostle Paul in the Bible, if we are to consider the revolutionary organism, we must say that we are the body parts of the revolution. There is no matter that is big or small. The body is not made up of only ears; it is made up of all of the eyes, ears, hands, feet, and head. It is the same in the revolution. Clickers, fundraisers, armed people, pen holders, healers, educators, rescue workers, administrators, international relations workers, communication workers, finance workers, research workers, people who like and share the revolution posts, artists, regular monthly supporters, and people who use NUG Pay knowingly or unknowingly are all part of the revolution. It is important to participate in the revolution in any way,” the Deputy Minister said.

In the current spring revolution, people from both domestic and foreign countries are participating as buyers of Treasury bonds and EOD shares.

4. The NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration held a meeting with the People’s Police Force

On August 18, the meeting between the NUG Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration (MOHAI) and the People’s Police Force (21/2023) was held.

At the meeting, Associate Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration gave an opening speech.

Following, Police Chief, heads of various departments, and township police officers discussed the security and law enforcement issues, judicial issues, and challenges encountered on the ground. The Associate Secretary discussed back briefly.

The meeting was attended by Associate Secretary of the MOHAI, the Police Chief of the People’s Police Force, departmental heads, and township police officers.

5. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration delivered Conflict Management Training to township people’s administrative bodies in Yangon Region

Under the leadership of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, Conflict Management Training (4/2023) for township people’s administrative bodies in Yangon Region was opened on August 18.

It was reported that the course is being taught for 3 days from (18-8-2023) to (20-8-2023).

It was reported that the training teachers will teach the members of the township people’s administrative bodies about conflict and problem-related issues, solutions to violence, concepts, and types of violence, and discuss and identify the needs of the participants to resolve the conflict and use self-resolving measures properly.

6. The Bokepyin Township People’s Police Force was formed by order of the Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration 

The National Unity Government’s Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration (MOHAI) announced on August 18 that the Bokepyin Township People’s Police Force was established by order of the Minister of MOHAI.

According to Section 14(b) of the People’s Police Law of 2022 of the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration of the National Unity Government, the “Bokepyin Township People’s Police Force” has been established under the Police Department.

At present, people’s police forces have been established in Kalay Township and Wetlet Township.

7. For alleged participation in the Pathein prison riot, 37 political prisoners were put in solitary confinement by handcuffs and leg shackles

On August 18, some Pathein revolutionary forces reported that 37 political prisoners were taken out of the dormitory for allegedly participating in the Pathein prison riot, and were put in solitary confinement with handcuffs and leg shackles.

Among the inmates involved in the prison riot, it has been learned that 37 inmates were taken out of the dormitory under Sections 333 and 332 for allegedly being armed, and were put up in solitary confinement with handcuffs and leg shackles.

It is reported that 65 political prisoners involved in the Pathein prison riot on January 1st in Pathein, Ayeyarwaddy Region, were sentenced to 3 years each in prison under Section 61.

8. Religious buildings near Myawaddy in Karen State were damaged due to 3 times of military council’s bombardment by 2 Jet-Fighter planes

On August 18, the Cobra Column confirmed the military news that religious buildings near Myawaddy in Karen State were damaged due to the bombardment of the military council by 2 Jet-Fighter planes 3 times.

“On August 18, at around 2:00 p.m., 2 Yak-130 (Jet-Fighter) planes from the Nay Pyi Taw Air Force of the terrorist military council bombarded the area around our secured area 3 times, causing many religious buildings to be damaged,” it stated.

After that, 1 enemy was killed due to sniper fire from the joint forces of Cobra column, and there was no damage to the joint forces.

9. In Yesagyo Township, the defense forces attacked the junta troops in 3 columns from the forest of Saing Thay Village to Myay Ma Hla Village, killing 7 junta soldiers and injuring a lot

On August 18, Yesagyo PaKaFa confirmed the military news that 7 junta soldiers were killed and many were injured when the defense forces attacked the junta troops in 3 columns from the forest of Saing Thay Village to Myay Ma Hla Village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region.

“On August 17, at around 10:00 a.m., the joint revolutionary forces that were waiting ahead on the top of the hill attacked the junta troops in 3 columns from the forest of Saing Thay Village to Myay Ma Hla Village between the two villages in close proximity, killing 7 junta soldiers and injuring a lot,” it stated.

After that, junta troops from Infantry Battalion IB-257 came to reinforce with a lorry and continued to advance in the column. When they arrived between Taung-U Village and Myay Hla Village, a second clash broke out with the joint revolutionary forces waiting ahead at about 4:00 p.m. The 3 foremost junta soldiers were killed after hitting the bullets, and many were reportedly injured.

The attacks were jointly carried out by the People’s Defense Forces-Yesagyo Township (PaKaFa), Pakokku District Battalion 9 and the Spring Warriors YSO-Yay Lal Kyun Region Column.
