Myanmar Spring Revolution Morning Fresh News for 2023 March 01

1. Acting President Duwa Lashi La says to speed up the revolution

Acting President Duwa Lashi La stated that the revolution must be accelerated. On February 28, the Acting President said the following at the 8th cabinet meeting of the National Unity Government:

“The terrorist military group believes it can control the public by instilling fear in them. In reality, the entire public is already disgusted by the military group’s brutality. To this day, the entire public has a strong will to fight against the military group without giving up. As our cabinet members, we need to continue to strengthen and accelerate the speed of the revolution without slowing down from where it is now.” The people’s resistance war is currently underway, and over 20,000 junta forces have been killed over one-year of the military operation.

2. Prime Minister says to put efforts for the safety of all revolutionary activists and CDMers in border areas

Union Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than said to put efforts to ensure the safety of all revolutionary activists and CDMers who arrived in border areas. On February 28, the Prime Minister said at the cabinet meeting as follows:  

“Now that it is no longer possible to live in our country due to the terrible conditions and inhumane human rights violations. Therefore, I would like to request that efforts be made to ensure the safety of all revolutionary activists and CDMers in border areas.”

More than 1.5 million people have been displaced in Myanmar, and it is estimated that 17.6 million people (nearly one-third of the total population) will require humanitarian assistance by 2023.

3. The UK government has prepared £45 million for humanitarian aid to Myanmar

Union Minister Dr. Sa Sa said the UK government has prepared £45 million for humanitarian aid to Myanmar. Dr. Sa Sa, Minister of International Cooperation, stated this in his speech on February 28 while clarifying the processes of diplomacy, international relations, and international cooperation.

“The UK Government has said it has prepared £45 million for 2022-2023 because humanitarian aid is desperately needed. The US also informed us that it would provide 50 million for humanitarian aid. However, half of Myanmar’s population has fallen below the poverty line,” the Minister said. Currently, 1.6 million people in Myanmar are refugees, and 17 million need humanitarian aid and have not yet received sufficient assistance, the minister said.

4. The “Protection Policy against Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and Improper Conduct” was presented at the cabinet meeting

The “Protection Policy against Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and Improper Conduct” was presented at the cabinet meeting. It is reported that the Women, Youths and Children Affairs Ministry presented and discussed regarding the “Protection Policy against Sexual Harassment, Exploitation, and Improper Conduct”. Union Ministers and Deputy Ministers attended the meeting, including Acting President Duwa Lashi La and Union Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than.

5. Formation of Kanbalu township People’s Police by order of Home Affairs Minister

The Kanbalu township People’s Police was established by order of Home Affairs Minister. The statement (6/2023) was issued on February 28 by order of Home Affairs Minister U Lwin Ko Latt.

“The National Unity Government’s Home Affairs and Immigration Ministry established the Kanbalu township People’s Police under Section 14(b) of the People’s Police Law of 2022,” according to the statement. Currently, Kale township police and Wetlet township police have been established.

6. 17 junta forces killed when defense forces attacked the military council column in Myinmu township

The military council’s column was attacked while raiding the Zero Guerrilla Force’s temporary camp in Myinmu township, killing 17 junta forces. The Zero Guerrilla Force reported the following in the last week of February:

“From 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on February 26, the ZERO Guerrilla Force, along with allied battalions and the LPDF, attacked a column of about 80 junta troops who raided the Zero Guerrilla Force’s temporary camp in Myinmu township.”

During the battle, two members of the Sartaung Thunder Force were killed, 17 junta soldiers were killed, and one captain was injured in the leg. The operation was jointly conducted by the ZERO Guerrilla Force (Myingyan District, Battalion 7) and Battalion 2, Kyaukse District Battalion 1, Sagaing District Battalion 2, Sagaing District Battalion 1 (CDSOM), Sartaung Thunder Force, G4G Sagaing, Local Artillery Group and Local People’s Defense Forces (LPDF).

7. Two junta forces killed when defense forces attacked their troops stationed at the Economic Bank in Myinmu city

Two junta forces were killed when defense forces attacked their troops stationed at the Myinmu-based Economic Bank. On February 28, the People’s Army to Fight Dictatorship confirmed the military news as follows:

“On February 27, around 6:00 p.m., revolutionary comrades suddenly attacked junta troops stationed at the Myinmu-based Economic Bank with small arms.”

Two people from the junta side were killed in the attack. At the same time, they attacked junta troops stationed at the High Education School (1) with a grenade.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with the People’s Army To Fight Dictatorship (PAFD), DK PDF(MMU), People’s Knight Defense Force Myinmu (PKDF, MMU), Myinmu West District PDF, Taungtha People Defense Force (TTAPDF), and D.B.B.F. and alliances.

8. Kasedo Federal Column attacked junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia members on the Myeik-Dawei Union Highway

The Kasedo Federal Column attacked junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia members who were extorting money from travelers in Theinkone village on the Myeik-Dawei Union Highway. On February 28, the Kasedo Federal Column informed about the military news as follows:

“On February 26, around 5:15 p.m., the Kasedo Federal Column attacked junta troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia members who were inspecting and extorting money from travelers in Theinkone village on the Myeik-Dawei Union Highway.”

Three members of the military council and Pyu Saw Htee were killed in the attack, and four others were injured.

9. Two men killed in a bombing attack by a fighter jet in Kachin State

In Kachin State, two men were killed in a bombing attack by a fighter jet without a fight. “On February 27, around 3:00 p.m., terrorist junta troops used a fighter jet to attack civilians mining gold near Nga Pauk village, Shwegu township, Kachin state. The attack killed one man from Moesit village and one man from Paukkone village,” AAPP said.

The terrorist military group has been targeting and killing civilians and conducting more airstrikes. At least 3,071 people were killed, including democracy activists who opposed the arbitrary military coup on February 1, 2021, according to AAPP. 

10. Nine junta forces killed in a clash between military council troops and the PNA, KA, and KNDF

In Pekon, the clash between military council troops and the PNA, KA, and KNDF killed nine junta soldiers and seized M16 and AK-47 rifles. On February 28, the Karenni Military Information Center confirmed the military news as follows:

“A clash between KA, KNDF, and PDF joint forces and the terrorist army and the Pa-O National Army (PNA) took place in Pyilone village of Pekon Township on the evening of February 27.”

Nine military council and PNA forces were killed in the battle, while some were injured, and three M.16, one AK gun, four 9MM, and ammunition were seized. One comrade from the joint revolutionary forces was killed, and some others were injured.

11. Myanmar junta forces burned down Kone village in Yinmarbin township

Myanmar junta troops started setting fire to Kone village in Yinmarbin township at 7:00 p.m. today, February 28, according to Yinmarbin Bo Thu Rein Battalion. 

As of January 31, 2023, the military and its related groups had burned down approximately 55,484 civilian homes across the country. According to Data for Myanmar, 43,292 houses in Sagaing Region, 8,863 in Magway Region, 1,484 in Chin State, and 1,845 in other states and regions were destroyed due to arson attacks.
