1. The Acting President urges at the CRPH meeting to oppose the sham election of the military council

At the 5th meeting of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) held on January 31, Acting President Duwa Lashi La urged the representatives of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw as well as all revolutionary forces to unite and oppose the sham election of the military council. The Acting President said:

“The terrorist military council is making every effort to hold an illegal and sham election in order to void the legitimacy of the 2020 election and replace it. Therefore, the representatives of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw as well as all revolutionary forces must unite and oppose the sham election of the military council.”

The Acting President stressed that the public should not participate in the military council’s sham elections, that elections must not be place in the controlled regions, and that the CRPH should inform international parliaments of the military council’s fake election.

2. The CRPH Chairman urges the NUG and the CRPH to make efforts to end the suffering of the people as soon as possible

At the 5th meeting of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), held on January 31 via conferencing, U Aung Kyi Nyunt, Chairman of the CRPH, urged the following:

“People are being killed every day. They have been suffering from being illegally arrested, tortured, and unjustly punished, as well as from their villages being burned down. They are fleeing from their safe and warm homes. Our new generation is losing the right to education. Therefore, I strongly urge the National Unity Government and the representatives of parliaments who have been given the task of serving the people to make more efforts to end the revolution and to end the sufferings of the people as soon as possible with mutual cooperation and unity.”

On the first day of the 5th meeting of the Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (Union Parliament), the EU Parliament Vice-President Hon. Ms. Heidi Hautala and ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR) Chair Mr. Charles Santiago attended and addressed speeches, and the President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Hon. Mr. Duarte Pacheco delivered a video speech.

The first day of the fifth session of the Union Parliament was convened on January 31, and a quorum was reached with 337 of the 407 members of the Parliament present.

The terrorist military group has so far killed at least 2,000 people and detained at least 10,000.

3. The NUG MOHAI is preparing to issue birth certificates to children born to Myanmar expatriates

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, the National Unity Government, held a work coordination meeting on January 30, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. regarding the work plan to issue birth certificates to children born to two expatriate Myanmar parents.

Union Minister U Lwin Ko Latt, Deputy Minister Khu Hte Bu, and other officials from the ministry attended the meeting, which discussed in detail the process of the work plan to issue birth certificates to children born to two expatriate Myanmar parents. The meeting was said to be ended at 6:00 p.m.

4. Union Minister U Tin Tun Naing pledges to work together with all his might to achieve the goal of ending the dictator without losing sight of it

U Tin Tun Naing, Union Minister of Planning, Finance and Investment, said the following on January 30 on his social media account:

“I turned 52 years old on January 30, 2023, at exactly 12:00 a.m. My comrades who are waging the revolutionary war together wish “Happy Birthday!” to me. I’d like to express my gratitude and joy for this from the midst of the revolutionary journey. At the same time, I promise that I will try my best to work together with all to achieve the goal of ending the dictatorship without losing sight of it in order for our people to live in peace and safely not only on their birthdays but for as long as they live.”

The Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment of the National Unity Government has been able to raise more than 100 million USD in revolutionary funds during the spring revolution.

5. The KNU President said that since starting to lead the politics of the Karen people, Karen national leaders have never surrendered until today

On the 74th Karen National Resistance Day, which falls on January 31, General Saw Mutu Say Poe, chairperson of the Karen National Union (KNU), said the following:

“Since the day the Karen National Union (KNU) was established, our Karen national leaders have had clear political views and political goals, and they have never surrendered from the time they began leading Karen politics until today. There was no such thing as a traitor. The KNU has a history of enduring and resisting without giving up, even when it struggled as a single organisation.”

The KNU is participating militarily and politically in the current People’s Defensive War.

6. UNICEF Myanmar says that over 1.5 million people in Myanmar, including children, have been forced to flee their homes

UNICEF Myanmar said the following on January 31:

“Over 1.5 million people in Myanmar have been displaced, with children forced to flee their homes and communities.”

Since the military seized power, they have been targeting ethnic areas and attacking civilians with aerial attacks. As a result, ethnic groups, including children, are forced to flee their homes.

7. The “Victory Flag of Spring” project by the Federal Wings has not yet met its target

In the final week of January, the “Victory Flag of Spring” project said that its target has not yet been met as follows:

“Welcome to the Victory Flag of Spring (Nway-Oo-Aung-Lan) project of the Federal Wings. This project campaign will end on January 5. The first prize of the lucky draw will be an amethyst locket worth 3.5 million kyats; the second prize will be one tical (approx. 16.3293 grams) golden necklace worth about 2 million kyats; the third prize will be an emerald locket worth 1.5 million kyats; the fourth prize will be an amethyst ring worth 1.1 million kyats; and as a special prize of the lucky draw, a pair of ladies’ shoes worn by Mother Suu on her journey to Europe to accept the Nobel Prize will be awarded.
