Members of the Central Committee for Interim Local Public Administration and Yangon Region Hluttaw Representative Committee meet

Members of Central Committee for Interim Local Public Administration and Yangon Region Hluttaw Representative Committee met and discussed the issues related to implementation of the Interim Local Public Administration.

At the meeting, Vice-Chairman of the Interim Local Public Administration Central Committee, Union Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration H.E. U Lwin Ko Latt gave an opening speech. The meeting was attended by the Vice-Chairman and members of the Central Committee for Interim Local Public Administration, representatives from the Yangon Region Hluttaw Representative Committee, and Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries and Directors-General from various ministries attended the discussion.

Minister of Human Rights said he hoped the Australia victorious Labor Party will be more supportive of the democratization of Myanmar

On May 22, Union Minister for Human Rights H.E. U Aung Myo Min said about the Australian election, “In Australia, the Labor Party has won the elections and it is gratifying that the Liberal Party has accepted the defeat and congratulated the winner. I hope the winning Labor Party will be more supportive of the democratization of Myanmar. I urge the Myanmar nationals in Australia to continue their efforts.”

United States and Republic of Korea issued a Joint Statement to call on all nations to provide safe haven to Myanmar nationals

The United States-Republic of Korea Leaders’ Joint Statement issued on May 21 called on all nations to provide safe haven to Myanmar nationals who are suffering because of the Terrorist Military Council and to prohibit arms sales to Terrorist Military Council.

It is also stated that the two Presidents resolutely condemned the coup in Myanmar and the military’s brutal attacks on civilians, and committed to press for the immediate cessation of violence, the release of those who are detained, unfettered countrywide humanitarian access and a swift return to democracy.

National Unity Government says that all those who involved in the acts of terrorism committed by the Military Council will be prosecuted in strict accordance with the Public Law

On May 22, Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government issued Proclamation No. (5/2022).

It is stated in the proclamation that it has been learned that Kyaw Nyi Zin, 21-year-old CDM student of Third year course, University of Medicine – Mandalay 12/2017 Batch, was shot in the head by a group of terrorists of Terrorist Military Council while traveling in a car with his family in MyinMu Township. It is also stated that the Terrorist Military Council has been committing acts of violence against healthcare workers.

It is added that Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government shared the grief of the families of the victims, including Maung Kyaw Nyi Zin. Justice for fallen medical and medical related students, healthcare workers, and the civilians must be restored and National Unity Government announced that all those involved in the acts of terrorism, committed by the Military Council will be severely punished in accordance with the Public Law.

National Unity Government has established representative offices in seven countries

As of May 22, National Unity Government has established representative offices in seven countries, including the establishment of new representative offices.

These countries include France, the Czech Republic, UK, Norway, South Korea, Japan, and Australia.

The National Unity Government has announced that it is currently preparing to open a liaison office in the United States.

Dealers for NUG BOND for Chin are being invited

On May 22, United Bonds-NUG announced that the “NUG BOND for Chin” dealers are being invited. Ministry of Planning, Finance and Investment (MoPFI) of the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Interim Chin National Consultative Council (ICNCC) will jointly launch the Spring Revolution Special Treasury Bonds. Chin Relief Funding Program – CRFP will act as working group and be responsible for the sale. Proceeds from the sale of Treasury Bonds will be used for Chin region expenses. The application period is from May 20, 2022 to June 20, 2022.

Karenni Refugee Network says some international assistances are being provided in Loikaw but has not reached the much-needed refugee camps in the western part of Hpruso and Demoso

An official from the Karenni Refugee Assistance Network (KRNN) said that despite reports that some international assistances were being distributed in Loikaw, which was approved by the military council, aid was not reaching the much-needed refugee camps in the western part of Hpruso and Demoso.

There are between 150,000 and 180,000 war-affected people in Karenni State, and over time the food and shelter situation has worsened. Refugees are expecting international assistances to arrive as the military council blocks access to food and medicine routes, said Ko Banya, a Karenni human rights activist.

United Nations, ASEAN and other international organizations are trying to help the refugees, but the military council is restricting them for a variety of reasons. Local armed groups in Karenni State are being pressured by the military council ‌as they oppose the military coup.

Within five days from May 17 to 21, the military council set fire to nearly 160 houses in eight villages in Myaung Township

Min Yek Kha from Myaung Township CDSOM said that the soldiers carried out arson attacks in Pan Chon, Ywa Peral, Pauk Chaung, Mae Ma Thaw, Nagapauk, Nay Pu Gone and Mindan villages in Myaung Township.

A villager from Nat Gyi village in Kani Township said that Nat Gyi village was set on fire for the second time, burning down almost the entire village on May 19.

Data For Myanmar reported that, until the end of April 2022, the military council burned down more than 7,500 houses in 34 townships in Sagaing Division.

Analysts estimate that at least 10,000 houses, including the houses burned in May, in Sagaing Division were set on fire.
