Morning Military and Earthquake Disaster News (April 2, 2025)

1. Military Junta Airstrike on Naung Cho Township on National Day of Mourning

On the first day of the national mourning declared by the military junta, two villages in Naung Cho Township were bombed from the air, according to a report by PSLF/TNLA.

At around 11:00 AM on April 1, drone and jet fighter attacks targeted Taung Hla and Gor Khar villages in Naung Cho Township, injuring five civilians and destroying two homes.

Additionally, on March 31, a drone carrying a 120mm bomb attacked Kyauk Kyam village in the same township.

On March 28, at around 1:00 PM, two 250-pound bombs were dropped on Naung Lin village, destroying three houses and two schools.


2. Military Junta Drops Two 500-pound Bombs on Min Tat Town

The military junta conducted an airstrike on Min Tat town, dropping two 500-pound bombs, according to Min Tat local authorities.

The attack occurred at approximately 6:25 PM on April 1, damaging homes. However, there were no reported casualties. Residents were warned to remain cautious of aerial threats.


3. Military Junta Bombs Lat Pan Hla Village, Singu Township

Aerial bombings by the military junta in Lat Pan Hla village, Singu Township, Mandalay Region, resulted in the destruction of multiple homes, according to local sources.

On March 31, at around 5:54 PM, an airstrike on Pyi Soe Aung ward in Lat Pan Hla village set two houses and one hut on fire.

The attack forced the entire village to evacuate, but no civilian casualties were reported.

Despite resistance forces halting offensives following the March 28 earthquake, the military junta continues its daily airstrikes.


4. Three Allied Resistance Groups Declare One-Month Ceasefire for Earthquake Relief Efforts

Three allied resistance groups have announced a one-month unilateral ceasefire in conflict areas to facilitate effective earthquake relief operations.

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28, along with aftershocks, caused severe destruction in Sagaing, Mandalay, Shan State, Bago, and Naypyidaw. Many lives were lost, and countless buildings, schools, hospitals, religious sites, and historic landmarks were damaged.

The three allied groups are closely monitoring the situation and are prioritizing emergency rescue efforts. They expressed their commitment to ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers and expediting relief efforts.

From April 1 to April 30, they have pledged to suspend offensive military operations, except for self-defense actions.


5. Mon National Party (Anti-Dictatorship) Pledges Support for Earthquake Relief and Reconstruction

The Mon National Party (Anti-Dictatorship) has announced its commitment to assisting earthquake victims through emergency relief and reconstruction efforts.

The party expressed deep concern for those still trapped under collapsed structures and condemned the junta’s continued airstrikes on affected regions.

It also acknowledged international and local humanitarian groups already providing aid and called for further international assistance. The party encouraged Mon communities to contribute to the relief efforts.


6. Ta’ang Region Cancels Thingyan Festival in Solidarity with Earthquake Victims

In an act of solidarity with earthquake victims, authorities in the Ta’ang region have decided to cancel all Thingyan (New Year) celebrations.

A government directive issued on April 1 prohibits festivals in Kyaukme, Mogok, Kutkai, Namhsan, and Namkham townships under PSLF/TNLA control.

Despite prior planning for the celebrations, the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake on March 28 resulted in thousands of deaths and ongoing rescue operations. To honor the victims and their families, all festive events have been called off.


7. Military Junta and PNO Militia Drone Attack on Two Earthquake-Hit Villages in Inle Region

April 1,

Despite their desperate need for assistance, two villages in the earthquake-affected Inle region, Southern Shan State, were bombed for two consecutive days by the military junta and PNO militia.

On March 31, drones launched eight bombings on Yae Pu village in Nyaung Shwe Township, damaging two homes.

Similarly, on March 30, Baw Kyaw village in Nyaung Shwe Township was bombarded with drones and heavy artillery six times, destroying one house.

According to the Inle Region Human Rights Group, the earthquake has resulted in at least 89 deaths and the destruction of 2,337 homes.


8. Military Junta Conducts Airstrikes Using Paramotors in Chaung-U Township

April 1,

The military junta carried out continuous paramotor airstrikes around Nway Kwe village, Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region.

On March 31, at around 9:30 PM, paramotor attacks originating from the Northwestern Military Command (Nam Kha) in Monywa were carried out five times.

On the morning of April 1, another airstrike targeted an eastern area of Chaung-U, but further details remain unknown.

On March 28, the junta had already conducted paramotor airstrikes on Nway Kwe village, despite the recent earthquake.
