1. Acting President Duwa Lashi La says that the NUG’s first priority is to knock down the military council as well as to protect the lives of the people

At the Cabinet Meeting (3/2022) held on January 17, Acting President Duwa Lashi La said:

“What I would like to emphasise here is that everyone should keep in mind that the NUG’s first priority is to knock down the military council as well as to protect the lives of the people. NUG is not holding fire with one hand and water with the other. The very existence of the NUG government leading the Spring Revolution based on the interests of the people. So, I believe that we should hold the principle of fighting the military dictatorship with the right hand and the principle of protecting people’s lives and properties with the left hand.”

2. Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khaing Thann claims that the NUG has the military capability to attack the enemy throughout the country.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government released the statement dated January 17, calling on the neighbouring countries of Myanmar not to allow their airspace to be used by the terrorist military for airstrikes.

The official statement is as follows:

Call on Myanmar’s neighbour’s to block the illegal military junta’s use of their airspace for its atrocity operations

  1. On 10th and 11th January 2023, illegal military junta fighter jets bombarded Camp Victoria, which serves as the headquarters of the Chin National Front (CNF) on the India-Myanmar border. A number of civilians were reportedly killed and injured in the aerial arracks, and civilian infrastructure, including three homes, and a local hospital, were destroyed.
  2. According to Chin National Front sources, the junta jets entered India airspace during the course of the attack. Other sources on the ground reported that some junta bombs hit Indian territory.
  3. This is not the first time that the illegal military junta has used the airspace of its neighbour’s during its atrocity operations, with Bangladesh and Thailand earlier examples. Nor is it the first time that junta bombs have struck foreign soil during such air raids.
  4. The National Unity Government therefore calls on Myanmar’s neighbours, in the interests of regional peace and security and the protection of civilians, to block the illegal military junta’s use of their airspace for its aerial attacks.
  5. This is consistent with the United Nations Security Council’s condemnation of attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure in its resolution 2669, its demand for an immediate end to all forms of violence, and its urging of restraint and de-escalation.
