Acting President, Duwa Lashi La, says that the people’s hopes and dreams had been ruined and the country had returned to darkness due to the seizure of power again by the military

International Democracy Day, which fell on today, September 15, was celebrated online by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH).

Duwa Lashi La, the Acting President of the National Unity Government, Mahn Winn Khaing Thann, the Union Prime Minister, U Aung Kyi Nyunt, the Chairman of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), as well as other leaders of the Spring Revolution such as U Min Ko Naing, Dr. Tayzar San, and other prodemocracy activists attended the ceremony.

At the event, the Acting President remarked, “On February 1, 2021, the military, led by the power-crazed Min Aung Hlaing, seized power again, and the people’s hopes and dreams were ruined, and the country has returned to darkness. Since the 2010 election in Myanmar, the democratic path of the people has been straightened, and a democratic government was elected in the 2015 election, and the people have been able to enjoy the taste of democracy. The military dictators, who lacked knowledge, underestimated how much the people had developed under the democratic system. That’s why, in taking the people’s power, they faced a large and strong counter-revolution.”

The National League for Democracy says that the destruction of the fourth pillar is a symbol of the destruction of democracy when the terrorist military council unjustly seized power from the people

At the International Democracy Day, which fell on today, September 15, and was hosted and celebrated virtually by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) at 10:00 a.m. this morning, Dr. May Win Myint, the Central Committee member, read the message of the National League for Democracy (NLD).

The message states, “It is sad to know that there were 140 journalists who were arrested and detained until May 2022, after the terrorist militant regime seized power in Myanmar. The three main pillars of democracy: legislation; the judiciary; and administration; and the media is even regarded as the fourth pillar of democracy. The press and media sector, which is the fourth pillar of democracy, was destroyed when the terrorist military council unjustly seized power from the people, and this is a symbol of the failure of democracy.”

Since democracy and human rights are interlinked like the head and tail of a coin, the absence of democracy is the time when human rights are destroyed. With the extinction of human rights, the suspicion of lawlessness will always follow. Let us protect rights, let us protect democracy, the message stated.

The UN process regarding the decision on the position of Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun may take from the last week of November to the first week of December

At present, the United Nations meetings are being organized, and the topics to be discussed include issues pertaining to Myanmar, Ko Nay Tin Myint, the executive of the New York City Burmese Community (NYCBC), told radio NUG.

What is of international interest is the United Nations General Assembly, which is also of great interest to all the people of Myanmar. On September 13, when the 77th Section of the General Assembly of the United Nations opened in New York City, where the United Nations Headquarters is located, the new President was elected according to procedure. The new President formed a Credential Committee of 9 countries to deal with issues related to Myanmar regarding credentials, and then the new President will decide. Yesterday, the list of those 9 countries come out. They will discuss, consult, and gather information regarding the credential issue related to Myanmar, and then they will decide. This process may take from the last week of November to the first week of December. Only then will a decision be made.

Last year, this decision came out only at around the end of November or beginning of December. Last year, the UN decided to defer its decision, U Kyaw Moe Tun remained in the position for that time being. U Kyaw Moe Tun was officially appointed as the Representative of Myanmar to the United Nations during the democratic government of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. On February 1, 2021, when the coup took place, and the NUG emerged in terms of legal legitimacy, the NUG recognized, accepted, and continued to remain U Kyaw Moe Tun in the position. It will be decided again in this 77th Session of the UN General Assembly.

When deciding, there will be one of four results. The first one is U Kyaw Moe Tun is selected clearly, with everyone’s decisions. The second one is they don’t decide or do anything and defer to next year, like the previous year, remaining U Kyaw Moe Tun in the position for the time being. The third is that they accept the representative appointed by the terrorist military council and annul U Kyaw Moe Tun. The last one is that the committee don’t accept both U Kyaw Moe Tun and the representative of the military council, annulling both.

We are trying to get the result of 1 or 2. On September 17, in the eastern part of the U.S, in New York, we will march and protest to keep U Kyaw Moe Tun at the United Nations, in line with our slogan “U Kyaw Moe Tun for Myanmar, Myanmar for U Kyaw Moe Tun”. In the west, people of Myanmar in the western provinces will gather in San Francisco on the same day. Moreover, people of Myanmar around the world will tell the leaders of the respective governments and send statements. We hope for the best and prepare for the worst, NUG government, which is at the top of our front, has also made a decision after thinking about it from all sides. Now that we know the list of nine countries of the Credential Committee, not only U Kyaw Moe Tun but also all representatives of NUG abroad shouted and all of them are saying that only U Kyaw Moe Tun should be in the United Nations arena.”
