Myanmar Spring Revolution Morning Fresh News for 2023 January 13

On January 12, the National Unity Government released a statement that more than 90,000 private houses were destroyed due to the arson attacks and a total of more than 5,000 people were killed across the country by Myanmar military council.

“Despite the efforts of the National Unity Government and revolutionary forces to safeguard civilians during the defensive resistance war, Myanmar military council is perpetrating aerial attacks, causing destruction and loss of civilian lives. As a result of Myanmar military council’s arson attacks on civilian residences and villages, more than 90,000 private houses have been destroyed across the country, over 5,000 individuals have lost their lives, and about 4,000 suffered injuries due to Myanmar military’s aerial bombings, indiscriminate shelling, and extrajudicial killings,” it stated.

The NUG government has said that the terrorist military council has used all means and restrictions to prevent assistance to the internally displaced persons, and it is violating international humanitarian law.

It is included in an “Appeal to local, international aid organisations, and donor countries in addressing the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar,” issued by NUG on January 12.

The appeal included the following:

“There are now over 950,000 displaced persons in Sagaing, over 700,000 in Karen National Union (KNU) controlled areas, around 350,000 in Rakhine State and around 350,000 in Karenni State.  Other states and regions also have several thousands of displaced persons.

Both local and international humanitarian organisations are facing significant challenges in delivering essential aid such as food, medicine, and shelter to those in need, due to Myanmar military’s blockade and restrictions.

The revolutionary forces, along with the people of Myanmar, strongly urge against any humanitarian assistance operations collaboration with Myanmar military council, which has systemically and intentionally committed atrocities against innocent civilians.

Based on the consensus of the people of Myanmar and ethnic revolutionary forces, the National Unity Government urges the international community to cooperate in solving the humanitarian crisis in Myanmar by imposing economic sanctions on terrorist Myanmar military, by reviewing and stopping international organisations’ projects which favour the financial flow to the Myanmar military council, and by exerting political pressure to end the import of jet fuel in order to stop their divesting aerial bombings and heavy artillery attacks against unarmed civilians.”

U Kyaw Zaw, the spokesperson of the President Office, said that the terrorist military is targeting civilian targets on purpose, so the people, the revolutionary forces and relevant personnel are urged to be cautious. He said this at a press conference regarding the January 12 airstrike in Kanan Village.

“The terrorist junta is failing from all sides, and their actions clearly show that they are deliberately causing as many deaths as possible to the civilian population. Our National Unity Government is working to provide advance warning, preventive measures, and education to protect the civilian population as much as possible, but the terrorist military is targeting civilian targets on purpose, so we respectfully urge all citizens, revolutionary forces, and relevant personnel to be in great caution,” he said.

According to the evidence and statistics obtained by the National Unity Government up to December 31, 2023, 627 children under the age of 18 and 1,017 women have been killed due to the terrorist killings committed since the day the terrorist military led by Min Aung Hlaing tried to seize power. It is reported that 583 attacks have been committed on innocent people’s communities using the air force, 897 civilians have been killed, and 76 religious buildings and 52 schools have been destroyed.

TNLA Chairman Lt. Gen. Tar Aik Bong said that it is time for the revolutionary forces to work together to bring responsibility and accountability for the war crimes committed by the military council. The chairman of PSLF/TNLA said this during his speech on the 61st anniversary of Ta’ang National Revolution Day fell on January 12.

“It is time for the revolutionary forces to come together and fight against the terrorist military council to make it accountable for the war crimes using the air attack weapons purchased to protect the country from foreign invasion and bombing the people’s houses every day,” Lieutenant General Tar Aik Bong said.

He also said that as long as the military leaders have the right to use the country’s revenue as they want, the country will not develop, and rather, the people will become poorer and poorer. In addition, the chairman of TNLA said that there is only the Myanmar military among the armies of the countries that is fighting back against its people by purchasing military equipment with the revenue collected from the people. So, it is time for the revolutionary forces, which have been formed in the midst of the military’s oppression and hardships, to review the current situation of the military council and attack and capture the military bases in their active areas. The Ta’ang Army TNLA has been able to attack and capture 7 towns and hundreds of military bases in the Ta’ang region within 80 days of ‘1027 Operation’.

According to a source close to the ethnic forces, the 3 Brotherhood Alliances and the military council have agreed to a cease-fire without continuing to conduct mutual operations as per the current situation.

It is reported that the ceasefire was agreed to on the night of January 11 at the third round of talks held in Kunming, China.

It is reported that they agreed on points such as the two sides must not advance further, the northern Brotherhood Alliances must not continue fighting over military bases and cities, the military council must not carry out air attacks and heavy artillery firing, and both sides must not carry out mutual operations. However, it is not known whether the ceasefire applies only to northern Shan State or whether it includes Rakhine State.

The meeting was attended by Pheung Kun, Jin Shin, and 5 members from MNDAA; Brigadier General Tar Phone Kyaw, and 7 members from PSLF/TNLA; and Dr. Nyo Tun Aung, and 7 members from ULA/AA. From the side of the Myanmar military council, a team led by Lieutenant General Min Naing from the Military Council attended. In addition, it is reported that the Chinese government delegation, which is conducting mediation, also attended the talks.

In the third round of talks, they agreed to reopen border trade with China, but it can only be implemented if there is a real ceasefire.

After Operation 1027, with China’s intervention, the three northern factions and the military council held talks three times. At the first meeting, they agreed to a cease-fire until the end of December, but the fighting continued. This time, it is said that they agreed to a ceasefire on January 11, but the fighting continued until January 12, according to reports from North Shan residents.

During the nearly 80 days of ‘1027 Operation’, 3 Brotherhood Alliances captured around 300 military bases in the Northern Shan region, 7 cities in the Ta’ang region, and no less than 9 cities in the Kokang region.

“Despite the current ceasefire, we will stand in solidarity with the people of Myanmar as long as the military dictatorship is not rooted out,” MNDAA and AA stated in a message on January 12, Ta’ang National Revolution Day.

On January 10, UN OCHA Myanmar stated that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the country has reached more than 2.6 million.
