1. The Union Prime Minister claims that the revolution is gaining momentum and that the junta troops’ high death tolls are proof of victorious outcome of the revolution

Union Prime Minister Mahn Winn Khine Thann stated the following through Twitter while quoting the Tweet report of the Ministry of Defence on clashes that took place in May:

“The revolution has immense momentum! 500 fierce clashes between the resistance and SAC forces, 449 SAC personnel neutralized, 681 injured, and 24 weapons seized in May alone! These numbers are telling who is winning. Saluting the bravery of the 41 heroes lost and 113 injured.”

The Ministry of Defence has reported that 500 intense clashes took place in Sagaing Division, Magway Division, Mandalay Division, and Northern Shan State in the No. 1 Military Region in May 2023, with a total of 449 enemy soldiers neutralised and 681 others injured, while 41 revolutionary comrades lost their lives and 113 were injured.

2. The National Unity Government sends a congratulatory letter to the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) for its formation, stating that it is a great support for the formation of the future Federal Democratic Union

On June 14, the National Unity Government (NUG) sent a congratulatory letter to the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) for its formation.

The letter read, “The National Unity Government congratulates that the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) was successfully formed on June 6, 2023, and was able to be officially introduced to the public on June 12, 2023.”

The letter noted that the enthusiasm, diligence, determination, and moral strength of the Karenni people and the courage of the Karenni revolutionary comrades were the unique characteristics of the Spring Revolution, and the NUG government proudly documented the fact that, based on those unique resources, the Karenni people were able to make efforts to achieve their state under their own management.

“Upon hearing that the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) will work together with the CRPH, NUCC, and NUG as well as connect and cooperate with supporters at home and abroad, the National Unity Government would like to express its willingness to continue to work together for the same union aspirations,” the letter stated.

The NUG went on to state in the letter that it believed that the newly formed Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC) was a great support for the future federal democratic union, which would be an excellent example for the region and state administrations that will emerge soon.

3. Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng says that the role of independent news media has become more important

On June 13, Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng made a statement on social media emphasising the growing significance of the independent news media’s role.

“In reality, the type of report that the superiors rely on is the only factor that matters in terms of letting them know the truth about the situation on the ground. Therefore, in order to know the actual situation on the ground, independent news sources are increasingly crucial, rather than only depending on departmental bureaucratic reports. Reports and research papers from independent institutions become important. It’s just that educated superiors who can read and evaluate these things are needed to make the right decision,” the Union Minister stated.

The military junta has revoked publication licences for independent news media and arrested journalists.

The Union Minister continued by saying that under military control, the country had been devastated and was devoid of freedom; as a result, the people were waging the Spring Revolution to get away from this way of life.

4. In Karenni State, camp capture battles were fought against three military border bases and the Mese Police Station

On June 14, the News and Information Bureau of the Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF) revealed that the Karenni Coalition “4K” of the Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF) and three other local veteran Ethnic Resistance Organisations (EROs) carried out attacks on Mese Police Station and three military bases on the Thai-Myanmar borders: BP-14 (Border Point No. 14) base, BP-15 (Border Point No. 15: Mei Ta Nwal) base, and BP-16 (Border Point No. 16: Taung Hla) base.

Among those military bases, according to reports, BP-16 Taung Hla military base was successfully taken over.

5. Magway District PDF Battalion No. 2 urges the people to contribute to their 30 million kyat fundraising campaign to buy an RPG 

Magway District PDF Battalion No. 2 urged the people to contribute to their 30 million kyat fundraising campaign to purchase an RPG, which is essential to defend against the columns of the military council and conduct operations against them in order to seize control of Magway District.

The 30 million kyat fundraising campaign that will run for two months from June 1 to July 31, 2023, aims to raise 30,000,000 kyats in revolutionary funds to buy an RPG for Magway District PDF Battalion No. 2.

There will be 1,500 raffle tickets available for purchase for 20,000 kyat each over the two months of the campaign. As an expression of appreciation to the people who contribute to the campaign, a Super Four (Honda CB400SF) motor cycle worth about 4,000,000 kyats owned by a PDF comrade will be raffled off, according to the Magway District PDF Battalion No. 2.

6. More than 1.8 million people remain displaced in Myanmar

UN OCHA Myanmar released the monthly Humanitarian Update report on Myanmar on June 13, stating that more than 1.8 million people remain displaced.

“The impacts of Cyclone Mocha and conflict compound the suffering of people in Myanmar. More than 1.8 million people remain displaced. Humanitarians continue to provide critical life-saving assistance despite access challenges and limited funding,” stated UN OCHA Myanmar.

The military is currently conducting raids on villages across the country and targeting civilians, which leads to increases in the suffering of the people and the number of internally displaced people in Myanmar.
