1. Acting President Duwa Lashi La congratulates Turkish President Erdoğan on his successful re-election

On Twitter, Acting President Duwa Lashi La congratulated Turkish President Erdoğan on winning re-election.

“Congratulations to President Erdoğan on re-election as the 13th President of the Republic of Türkiye, and to the people of Türkiye. I look forward to working together to strengthen the cooperation between NUG Myanmar and your government,” stated the Acting President.

With 99.43 percent of ballot boxes opened, the Turkish incumbent President Erdoğan won the race with 52.14%, while Kilicdaroglu received 47.86% of the votes, according to Ahmet Yener, chairman of the Supreme Election Council (YSK).

2. Due to the high temperatures in Myanmar, NUG Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng advises taking extra care of children and the elderly

Dr. Tu Hkawng, Union Minister of the NUG Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, cautioned the public about the high temperatures on May 30 through social media.

“The temperature of middle Myanmar has become like a sauna. Don’t go outside in the afternoon. If you must go out, wear sweat-absorbing clothes that can protect you from the heat. Drink plenty of water. Give extra attention to babies, children, and the elderly. Be healthy,” Union Minister Dr. Tu Hkawng said.

3. The NUG Interim Local Administrative Central Committee (ILACC) has a meeting with Township People’s Administrative Bodies from Sagaing Region

The meeting (21/2023) between the Interim Local Administrative Central Committee (ILACC) of the National Unity Government and Township People’s Administrative Bodies from Sagaing Region was held on May 29 at 3:00 p.m.

The opening remarks of the meeting were made by the Permanent Secretary of the Union Prime Minister Office, a member of the ILACC. Following that, the representatives of the relevant ministries explained topics related to each ministry and questions raised by members of the Township People’s Administrative Bodies in relation to the ministries’ policies, guidelines, operations, and  the meeting discussed the challenges facing on the ground.

The meeting was reportedly attended by permanent secretaries, associate secretaries, and relevant officials from the NUG ministries, as well as leaders and members of the Township People’s Administrative Bodies from Sagaing Region.

4. The junta-controlled Basic Education High School in Kamayut Township demands up to 3 million kyats for school administration and enrolment fees

The NUG Ministry of Education issued a statement on “Information and Exhortation to Students and Parents Regarding the Situation in the Basic Education Sector in 2023 during the Revolution Period,” based on the public’s complaints.

A list of schools and education offices run under the military council that are committing corruption in grade-skipping and admissions was provided in the statement. Among them were the Kamayut B.E.H.S. (TTC), or “Practising High School, Yangon University of Education,” in Kamayut Township, and the B.E.H.S. No. 2 in Sanchaung Township. The Kamayut TTC demands up to 3,000,000 MMK for admission and enrolment fees, and the Sanchaung B.E.H.S. No. 2 demands up to 1,600,000 MMK for admission of students outside its catchment area and up to 1,000,000 MMK for admission of students in its catchment area.

In addition to these, there are other well-known high schools that allow grade-skipping and demand money.

The Ministry of Education of the National Unity Government has clearly announced that the grading of public schools, private schools, and monastic schools run under the terrorist military council is illegal.

5. More than 20,000 residents from 17 villages in the Yae Lel Kyun area in Yesagyo Township of Magway Division are fleeing

According to a May 29 statement of the Yesagyo Township People’s Administrative Organisation, starting on May 26, the terrorist military columns have been invading 17 villages in the Yae Lel Kyun area from various sides, forcing about 21,000 residents of those villages to be displaced. The columns also destroyed 15 motorboats that were parked along the Chindwin River in Nan Oo village on May 28.

The statement added that as of May 28, gunfire by the terrorist military council columns had resulted in the deaths of three civilians since May 26 and the injuries of many others. And local residents, including some who have been injured, have also been reportedly abducted to use as human shields.

6. Three military trucks carrying junta soldiers were attacked by mines in Ngazun Township, killing two soldiers on board and injuring many others

On May 30, the Sagaing District 4th PDF Battalion, Myaung Special People’s Defence Force (MSPDF), released a military report regarding its mine attack on three military trucks travelling in Ngazun Township.

“On May 27, at about 9:40 p.m., in Ngazun Township, a mine attack was launched against three military trucks carrying terrorist military council troops that were travelling from Kone Lel village to Nat Gyi village by using two 3-clustered mines, killing two on the spot and injuring many others,” stated the MSPDF.

The mine attack was said to have been carried out jointly by the Sagaing District 4th PDF Battalion (MSPDF), the Nagzun Township PDO/Pa-Ka-Fa, Federal Brothers People’s Defence and Production, the Phoenix Guerrilla Force (Ngazun), the People’s Force Guerrilla Force, the Black Swan Guerrilla Force, and the Mandalay District 5th PDF Battalion (MNPDF).

7. A $500,000 fundraising campaign to support operations in Yangon will be launched on June 3

A $500,000 fundraising campaign, “Dot of Light to Push Yangon Towards the Light Together,” will run for one month, from June 3 to June 30.

“We are responsible for getting back to a stable Yangon; you need to welcome the ‘Dot of Light for Yangon’ Campaign,” stated the campaign organiser.

It was said that the content of the campaign and detailed information will soon be announced on the Facebook page of the Dot of Light for Yangon (ရန်ကုန်အတွက် အလင်းစက်).
