1. NUG calls for the formation of a new union by uprooting the terrorist military dictator and achieving Second Independence

In its commemorative message sent to the 75th Independence Day celebrations, the National Unity Government (NUG) calls on all stakeholders in the revolution to work toward the formation of a new union by uprooting the terrorist military dictator and achieving Second Independence.

The message stated that Myanmar’s military, which played an important role in Myanmar’s independence history alongside the people’s struggle, was systematically destroyed by power-hungry military leaders who prioritised their own interests and established the habit of bullying the entire population with weapons, running military coups in successive periods of history, and extending the suffering of the entire population under the yoke of the military.

The National Unity Government urged the formation of a new union and the eradication of the military dictator as follows:

“We convey this commemorative message by urging all the organisations representing the people, Ethnic Revolution Organisations, and the people to follow their New Year Resolutions of eradicating the military dictatorship and creating the Federal Democracy Union as a common goal and follow in the footsteps of our forebearers where they garnered the spirit to fight off a force much stronger. Together we will go forth with this zeal and spirit, and we will uproot this military dictatorship and gain a second independence.”

“The National Unity Government is working hard to provide for the people who have suffered, as well as to prevent further damage and to liberate the country from the oppression of the brutal terrorist military.” “As the National Unity Government (NUG) is a revolutionary government, in the interim administration, the NUG is changing the policies that should be changed as well as making the necessary arrangements as much as possible.”

The Union Prime Minister further stated that the National Unity Government had prepared a one-year strategy and was working to implement it, and that success was not far away given the current state of the international community’s support, which has grown stronger than it was previously.

From January 2 to 5, as part of the “Blood Money” campaign to cut the flow of blood money to the military regime, a campaign is being run to post photo comments on PTT’s Facebook pages for their customers to see. The campaign aims at letting Thai customers of PTT know how PTT is involved in human rights violations against Myanmar citizens.

“Many Thai people still don’t know how the PTT group is related to Myanmar. In the near future, as part of the Blood Money campaign, we will join forces with young Thai activists and try to boycott PTT in Thailand as well,” the Blood Money campaign said.

There are many subsidiaries under the Thailand-owned PTT Group, and 51 percent is owned by the Thai government. The PTTEP (PTT Exploration and Production) is involved as a shareholder in all three oil exploration projects in the lower part of Myanmar, namely Yadana, Yetagun, and Zawtika, and is also the buyer of the gas.

The money that PTT Group gives to the terrorist military is worth millions of dollars every year (458.9 million dollars in 2021), and it is estimated that it could be worth about one billion dollars by 2022.
