Myanmar Spring Revolution Morning Fresh News for 2023 August 10

1. In order to reduce violence in Myanmar, Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung urged to act more in accordance with the ASEAN Charter.

Union Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Daw Zin Mar Aung, stated in her congratulation message to celebrate the 56th anniversary of ASEAN on August 8 that the ASEAN Charter should be further implemented in order to reduce violence in Myanmar,.

Republic of the Union of Myanmar, National Unity Government, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Union Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung conveyed a congratulation message commemorating the 56th anniversary of the founding of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

In the message, the Union Minister conveyed congratulations for the 56th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN, and expressed particular appreciation to Indonesia as ASEAN Chair in 2023.

In addition, in relation to the Myanmar issue, NUG has reportedly encouraged ASEAN’s efforts on principles described in the ASEAN Charter in the effectively having fully and fairly response to stop the escalating levels of violence.

2. Association Registration Issuance Central Committee of the National Unity Government Meeting No. (1/2023) held

Association Registration Issuance Central Committee of the National Unity Government Meeting No. (1/2023) was held on August 9.

At the meeting, U Lwin Ko Latt, Union Minister for the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration, Chairman of the Association Registration Issuance Central Committee, gave an opening speech, saying, “We have been working as a committee for about a year. The working group is operating regularly and verifying association registrations.  We need to act on the committee’s work guidelines. We will also work hard to register INGO organizations that are related to international affairs. It is necessary to be able to carry out more extensively in every process. We have to carry out activities in sync with the roles that are prioritized in the revolution.” 

The attending members of the central committee continued to discuss the process in detail and decided on the future steps to be taken.

According to the central committee, there are (11) associations that issue registration and (18) associations that issue temporary registration.

Union ministers, deputy ministers, permanent secretaries, and associate permanent secretaries attended the meeting.

3. The public is urged to continue participating in the “Financial and Economic Strike”.

On August 9, Home Affairs and Immigration Minister, U Lwin Ko Latt urged the public to continue participating in the “Financial and Economic Strike” on social media.

“People have expressed their determination by putting up signs in every city that said, “We won’t allow the military council to rule.”  In the meeting that Min Aung Hlaing called as he wanted, the words that the villages and towns cannot be controlled have proven that the plan to build the coup military rule has become unsuccessful. We have broken the dream of the military council with the strength of the entire people. But to achieve the goal of federal democracy that we want, we still need to continue our journey together. Now, the first step of the “Financial and Economic Strike” has come, in which all people, regardless of age or gender, can participate. In this first phase, the revenue sources of the military junta that will be cut and smashed are the “military-owned alcoholic beer and cigarettes” group.

4. Defence Minister U Yee Mon said that they must pressurize and attack the suffocating military council until it stops breathing

The suffocating military council must be pressured and attacked until it stops breathing, Defence Minister U Yee Mon said in his speech to the comrades of the People’s Defense Force Company Commander Training Batch (2) on August 9.

“You will see that the terrorist military leader is removing, expelling, and killing his own people in order to find a culprit for his failures. We must attack the suffocating military council until it stops breathing. Our comrades have already realized that our strategy is an “all-out strategy”. All over the country and in every region, we have gathered forces and fought. As the next step in the strategy, the PDF and its allies must build a “mass force” and launch a strategic offensive under a single plan. Comrades must participate in this operation as important battlefield leaders from various fronts,” said the Union Minister.

The People’s Defense Force Army (PDF) has been able to conduct basic military training, non-commissioned officer level military training, mines, heavy weapons, drones, snipers, production, surveillance, grand strategy, and tactical level courses in more than two years.

“Today’s order to our comrades is to keep your guns in your hands firmly. Build your army to be tougher than. Continue marching toward the goal of the revolution as the proverb ‘Never do things by halves’,” said the Union Minister.

5. Myanmar is the country with the greatest risk to health care workers’ lives and security

Union Minister for Health Dr. Zaw Wai Soe said in an interview that Myanmar is the country with the greatest risk to health care workers’ lives and security.

“The WHO also stated. Myanmar is the most dangerous country in the world for health care. Myanmar is the worst country in terms of life safety and security for doctors, nurses, and health care workers. By looking at it, you can see how bad the situation is,” said the union minister.

Since the military coup, the military junta has been arresting, torturing, and killing health workers across the country, including CDM employees. From February 2021 to October 2022, 58 health workers were killed, and more than 700 were arrested and tortured. The military junta attacked and destroyed more than 50 hospitals and more than 40 ambulances, according to the Ministry of Health of the National Unity Government (NUG).

6. NUG Union Ministers attended the meeting between the Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Mandalay and Magway Divisions

On August 9, the meeting between the NUG’s Interim Local Administration Central Committee (ILACC) and the township people’s administrative bodies of Mandalay and Magway Divisions (26/2023) was held.

At the meeting, Union Minister for Commerce Daw Khin Ma Ma Myo, a member of ILACC, gave an opening speech.

Following, members of the township people’s administrative bodies exchanged views with relevant officials regarding policies, directions, activities, and challenges encountered on the ground. Then, Union Minister for Labour U Nai Tun Pe @ U Nai Suwunna, a member of ILACC, gave a closing remark.

The meeting was attended by Union Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, Associate Secretaries, officials from ministries, and members of the township people’s administrative bodies of Mandalay and Magway Divisions.

7. Food and shelter are being provided to the displaced people in Karenni State, and a total of 438 million kyats have been provided for humanitarian assistance

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management (MOHADM) of the National Unity Government announced on August 9 that food and shelter are being provided to the people displaced by the war in Karenni State, and a total of 438 million kyats have been provided for humanitarian assistance.

“Humanitarian assistance is being provided to the displaced people in Myanmar who are facing hardships due to the violence of the military council through donations from people to people. We have provided rice, food, shelter and consumer goods worth a total of 38,703,561 kyats to the displaced people of Karenni State who are currently fleeing to the border areas due to the offensives by the army and air force of the terrorist military council in Karenni State.” It stated.

In addition, since its inception on 16.4.2021, the ministry has provided a total of 438 million kyats to the people displaced by the war in Karenni State to provide immediate emergency drinking water, food and shelter needs, and to provide humanitarian assistance to those who were injured in the battle and the surviving families of those whose lives were lost in the battles (people/comrades).

It is reported that in Karenni State, humanitarian assistance has been provided in cooperation with the Karenni State Interim Executive Council (IEC), Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP), Karenni Nationalities Defence Force (KNDF), Coordination Team for Emergency Relief-Karenni (CTER), Freelance Volunteer Myanmar (FVM), and Karenni State-based CBOs/CSOs.

8. U Henry Van Thio was expelled from the National League for Democracy

On August 9, the Central Work Committee of the National League for Democracy announced that U Henry Van Thio was expelled from the National League for Democracy. The official statement is as follows:

1. Nine members of Central Executive Committee of the National League for Democracy including Chairperson and Vice-Chairpersons, have been arbitrarily arrested for opposing the military coup of Min Aung Hlaing, leader of terrorist military junta who has committed treason against the State; similarly, numerous members of the party at all levels have been unlawfully detained in various prisons. U Nyan Win, a member of the Central Executive Committee, had fallen in prison for not receiving adequate medical treatment. The National League for Democracy Party is standing together in the struggle with all the ethnic people from the whole of Union of Myanmar who aspire for democracy.

2. U Henry Van Thio was the Vice President mandated with trust by the party during the parliamentary term (2016-2021), but now on 31.07.2023 he was collaborating with the power-hungry military junta that is terrorizing, torturing, arresting and killing the population while committing numerous war crimes.

3. In relation to that matter, on (8.8.2023) the Second Central Committee interim emergency meeting was convened and the views of the Central Committee members were discussed where the majority decision to expel U Henry Van Thio from the party was reached.

4. Therefore, U Henry Van Thio has been expelled from National League for Democracy because he has violated the commitment that he has made to follow the party’s objectives and policies which focus on implementing the will of the people and the oath given to the public that he would take the will of the voters seriously as a member of parliament of Amyotha Hluttaw (House of Nationalities) representing the party according to the results of the general elections in 2020.

9. Yoma Column 1 clashed with the enemy junta column of over 100-strong while they were coming down from the Phyu-Oakphyat road and tried to invade Lower Kyar Inn Village

Yoma Column informed on August 9 that Yoma Column 1 clashed with the enemy junta column of over 100-strong while they were coming down from the Phyu-Oakphyat road and tried to invade Lower Kyar Inn Village.

“An enemy column of more than 100-strong coming down from the Phyu-Oakphyat road was stationed in the Upper Kyar Inn Village, and at around 09:00 a.m., a contact battle broke out with Yoma Column 1 while they were trying to invade Lower Kyar Inn Village. When the enemy tried to invade Lower Kyar Inn Village by firing heavy weapons and machine guns, our revolutionary forces shot back with snipers and machine guns, killing an enemy soldier,” it stated.

The defense side was not harmed, and as the enemy column was stationed in Upper Kyar Inn Village, about 400 people from Lower Kyar Inn, Ywar Thit, and Taung Kone Villages were fleeing the war.
